Contracting

I was at my University this past weekend for orientation and I was told I could contract this coming Fall in Army ROTC. I will be a sophomore this fall, since I have enough transfer credits. I then came home and contacted the Det. but was told something else. Does anyone know if this is true? Any information is greatly appreciated!
 
You can only contract as a sophomore if you have some prior military experience. have you been to basic? Are you a member of a guard or reserve unit? Did you take JROTC in high school? If you have no prior military experience you will need to take the Basic course ROTC classes (freshman and sophomore classes), or attend LTC the summer before your junior year before you can contract.
 
Thank you for the response. So if I were to register for both classes this coming Fall can I contract, or do I have to complete both classes first before I can contract?
 
You would have to take MS 1 and MS 2 ROTC courses which is 4 semesters.

Right. I understand that I will have to take both, but the person I talked to told me I could take both the same year. So I was wondering if that is possible or if he miss spoke. He also made a comment about me being able to contract this coming fall, but did not ask about prior military at all, so I am a little bit confused. Thank you in advance.

Correct me if I'm wrong clarkson, You're talking about non-scholarship cadets, right?
If you have a scholarship, you have to contract to begin receiving the benefits (tuition, stipend, etc). In this case you can contract freshman or sophomore year if you met all the requirements (DODMERB, APFT, etc.)
Also, it is possible to take more than one MS class at the same time. You'd have to talk to the det. We had cadets that joined us mid-year take the MS 101 and 102 at the same time.
