I was wondering what visitation is like during the academic year or if there is any visitation at all.
Are cadets allowed to have visitors on weekends or at all and do the visitation privileges change after Plebe year?
For example, I have a friend in the Boston area, could she come visit me on any given Saturday if I'm not too busy? (which i know will probably be a rare occasion)

It depends alot on the calendar days (explained in detail below) but also your own schedule. However, visitors are not allowed in the "Cadet Area" (unless exceptions are made i.e. Plebe Parent Weekend, 500th Night, etc...) Yet, you may still take your guest to see whatever you wish around campusvif the schedule permits.
On A/B weekends cadets are "free" in the sense that there are no obligations, which are most weekends however there are also A/D ( a.k.a Dean's Weekend) wekeends which usually involve remaining at the academy until 1100 Saturday for Academic purposes. There are also A/C weekends (Commandant's Weekend) which usually take up the entire weekend for militaristic training. Furthermore, if it is the weekend of a home football game you are not released until after the conclusion of the Alma Mater following the game.

What's the scoop on Thanksgiving leave???

From the calendars it appears class normally ends at 1300, but the cadet cannot leave until all duties are complete.

Assuming no special duties, what's the norm? does it vary by company? Or is there a typical time the cadets are cut loose?

As soon as your final class is over, you can generally leave at that point. For example, if your final class for the day is at 1100, you can leave as soon as that class is over. Days in advance, bus tickets will be sold at Grant Hall and you will see that most of the bus departures to the airports are scheduled before the conclusion of the academic day (though there are one or two that leave following 1300, for any unlucky sap (like myself) who has a last hour class.

Your chances of having any special duties are rather slim for Thanksgiving Break unless they're disciplinary in nature (walking hours, cleaning details, range details, etc.).
