Does anyone know how to submit AP scores from previous years to USMA? I was trying to figure out the Collegeboard website, but it's pretty terrible. Worst comes to worst, I'll probably end up bringing a copy to R-Day, but if anyone knows how that would be great.
 
It is unnecessary to send USMA or any of the Service Academies your AP scores..

I would have to disagree with this. The AP scores will not do for you what they do for students at traditional colleges by getting them out of classes and getting them credits. With that being said though, the AP scores can help with placement. I know this is the USMA forum, but for USAFA, I know that they help with the language and Math placement. AP scores will not replace the validation tests that you take during CBT at USMA, but they will help the faculty place you in the right class. In order to send them to USMA, you needed to fill in USMA's code when you took the tests. I don't know if they will accept a copy of your scores that your parents could send to them while you are in CBT. If I were you, I would call the specific department that you took the AP test for and see what their policy is.

Your old scores are suppose to be on the report that you get from the latest tests you took. If you sent the new scores to USMA, they should include your old scores (per the collegeboard).

My understanding is pretty much what cadet15 said. When you ask for a score report of AP scores to be sent to a college, the College Board will send all scores from all previous years as well. Its one of the things that they actually don't try to suck your blood out and get more money from ya on...actually its probably the only one and now that I mentioned that, it'll probably change (you can tell I love the College Board and standarized testing)

Absolutely not the case. There are specific classes where the AP scores are a factor.

There are two links I'm aware of on this topic

The short version: AP's scores are used by faculty as one source of data in your validation decisions. 4+ appears to be where they start to help in most cases, but even 3's are considered for some. And for a few classes, it appears that very high AP scores (5) can result in direct validation.

You will still have to take a full load, you just get to take classes required later or in some cases advanced tracks, etc.

But read the website it's quite specific. :smile:
 
Send your AP scores--they helped me validate classes, such as plebe history, single variable calc, and composition. Your AP report has all of your scores from all years on it.

Can you get Collegeboard to not send one of your scores? I did very poorly on AP Chem, and would prefer not to have my score sent. This was as a freshman, and we discovered I hadn't really had enough math for it.

After you're 'in' and you're sending scores for validation, it doesn't really matter what you got on them, ie a bad one won't be held against you. They wont kick you out for a low AP chem score... At that point in time, AP scores can only help you, not hurt you, from my understanding.

Hello! My situation is a little different, but I didn't want to make a new thread, so I'm co-opting this one.

This year, I took two AP classes and received good scores. :shake: Quite a shock, I can assure you. Anyway, the procedure for us for sending our scores was that on the day of the test, as we filled in our name and stuff we could also fill in the code for the college we wanted to send them to. Most of us weren't expecting that at all, and so we filled in a random college... probably not the best idea. I put West Point, everyone else put Yale. Anyway, when I got my scores back, I saw that West Point did receive them as well, and I'm really happy about that because they were darned good scores. However, I'm not applying yet. I just sent in my scores to WP on a bit of a whim. I'm going to be a junior this school year. I know that the scores may be useful if I get in and can validate some stuff, but I'm nowhere near in.

Bottom line: Can AP scores make your candidate file a little more competitive? I got a 5 on AP french and another 5 on AP spanish language, if that helps...
 
From what I understand: no, not from an admissions standpoint. Though, they may help you validate courses coming into the academy.
 
You were asking specifically about USMA, but if you are applying to USNA and indicate that you took an AP language course, you need to fill in your score. Whether they factor it into the admissions decisions, I do not know, but they ask for the score. A 5 in both French and Spanish would stand out.
 
Here's some trivia I got at SLS if anyone's interested: A 5 on any AP history test results in automatic validation of Plebe History, or so I was told by the history professor in charge of our history workshop. She didn't say anything about a validation test.

DANG IT. Oh well, at least I learned, and if I do get in, I'm sure it'll be nice to validate out of spanish 1 or something. Thank you everyone for responding so quickly however!

Jocomom, yes, I'm definitely applying to USNA as well, although USMA's my first choice!

Just look earlier in this thread, I've posted links to the USMA policy documents as well as some good insight from a current cadet.
