Does anybody know how competitive it is to make the USAFA boxing team? Im thinking about trying out but Id like to know my chances? Do I have to have any prior experience before hand? I know there is a boxing club as well, so how does the selection process go for making the club and for being on the team? :confused:

I'm gonna try myself! Been boxing for about 13 years. We can hit mitts together :thumb:
 
On this note, I thought I read somewhere everyone has to take self defense classes. What are they like? (I do jiu jitsu myself, so I'm super excited about these)
 
You have to sign up for the wing open and fight your way through.

One semester is stand up - boxing, etc. and another semester is ground - jiu-jitsu, wrestling, etc. They probably won't go VERY in-depth into either, but if you already know some BJJ, like myself, than you'll probably already be pretty familiar with the stuff they're teaching, so you should be fine. But don't get too excited, I doubt they'll throw you in the cage or anything lol
 
Girls don't take boxing, but they have to take a different self-defense class when the guys take boxing. not sure exactly how it works though.
 
Everyone takes two unarmed combat classes their junior year (UC1 and UC2)

UC2 is more ground fighting.

Males take boxing their freshmen year while girls take Self Defense that same year.
 
Freshmen year all guys take a boxing class and all females take Intro to Combatives. The class is mainly ground fighting/ jiu jitsu with some standing drills. You are graded on a few fights with a partner as well as your execution of the standing drills. Since I had 5 years of taekwondo experience with some jiu jitsu, I really enjoyed it. Other girls, not so much :yllol:
 
YES! self defense class is gonna be legit :) but Hey Magtag!!!! its Adams, you know the chick that sat behind you in Chemistry haha:yllol:
