For those of you who might be reporting to SMCs in August, there will likely be a number of Alumni events in your area aimed at giving new cadets a "salute" before they are off to their respective SMCs. Norwich calls these events "Freshmen Sendoffs". It's basically a very informal picnic-type event (usually held at an alum's house) where the prospective cadets and their families get to ask a ton of questions about what they can expect at the SMC. You will also get to meet some of your peers from your area on whom you will lean heavily during your first year (and beyond).

If you happen to receive an invite to such an event, you should definitely try to attend. It's worth it. If you don't receive an invite, then contact the admissions office at your SMC and ask whether there will be a sendoff in your local area this summer.

Perhaps those from the other SMCs can chime in and advise whether they do something similar.

In any event, keep up the PT regimen and good luck!!!

We will have a similar event in the Boston area in August for departing Rats heading off to perdition (oops I meant heading off to VMI:wink:). Last year we hosted around 10 Rats from Massachusetts at a Restaurant just outside of Boston. I haven't seen the list yet for this year but look forward to seeing you all.

Bruno - what a terrific thing! I do not believe they do anything like that here in our area. I do know there are chapter events, maybe quarterly. Was yours in existence before your son went to VMI, or was this something you created? I think its great!

Wasn't me- it was the alumni chapter which just got reinvigorated last year by one of my Brother Rats. The sendoff dinner was the inaugural event and we followed it up with a recruiting event and now we just hosted Gen Peay this past Wednesday at the Algonquin Cub in Boston and had around 45 Alums in attendance. The Sendoff was so popular that we are doing it again this August- so for those in Southern and Central New England, expect to get an invitation to meet some alums and about to be Brother Rats a few days before matriculating. W're not alone- I know that several other chapters host one of these- I'm surprised that Northern Virginia doesn't- although there are a lot more Rats to send off from there (like 10x!) so logistics might be an issue. I think that our chapter President got the idea from the local Norwich guys who host a picnic every year for the about to be Rooks.

Congratulations on graduating from HS, good luck to all of you- have a fun and productive summer and keep up that PT prep so that your matriculation day is no greater shock to your system than it should be!

It would be a great opportunity to get out the Yankees gear:biggrin:

Only if you want to have a really bad day:biggrin:

..I don't think I really would do that, except if I were to have tickets for a NY game at had seats on the green monster. :thumb: It's one city on the East coast I've never been to. Those send off parties sound like a really good idea, especially if you can't get to STP and don't know anyone else that is going. And a good way for parents to connect too.
