Hello,

On Iday we plan to bring some food and drink for my son after the swearing in ceremony. Do we have any place which we can store them since we will spend all day on the yard, and I afraid that the food will be bad by then.

Thanks

I've seen a lot of people with the small portable hard or soft-side coolers. I saw one family with a small rollaboard tote, which they had outfitted locally with an improvised lining of plastic and purchased ice gel packs which they froze in their hotel room.

Other posters may have more creative ideas or experiences.

We ended up just buying some snacks and water at the midshipman's store which is open for the families and it is right there at bancroft hall.

Since April USNA has been under hightened security. Trying to get on the yard with any type of cooler is not likely. Besides trying to drag the thing around for 10 hours will be a real pain. Your best bet is to head over to the Midstore around 15:00 and pickup something to drink and maybe a light snack. You only have about 60 minutes or less to say goodbye so not a lot of time. One item to bring is one or 2 light towels. One for your Mid to sit on the grass, the other to prevent spills on the white works.

Right outside of Gate 1 there is a Moes Burrito place. Since DS loves Mexican food we ran over there right before the swearing in ceremony and picked up some burritos. We made sure to have a waterproof blanket for him to sit on, lots of napkins and a Tide-to-go pen in case of spills!!

we ran over to subway and got him his favorite sandwich, no mustard, then clear frost gatorade from drug store. Knew he would be nervous about drips...and yes we had the tide and bleach pens!

Grab some Shout wipes, for short term spill clean up they work better on whites and white works than tide pens.

Bringing towels is a good idea, however don't be surprised if your plebe stands the entire time. They will be nervous and constantly on the look out for detailers.

Make sure to leave time for long lines in the Mid Store. Another option for cold drinks where the lines should be too long are the vending machines inside MacD. If you enter through the MidStore parking lot doors and turn right, the vending machines will be on your right (both for soft drinks and sports drinks). For nervous parents, you WILL be allowed in MacD.

We bought our son food from the Drydock in the mid-afternoon. Believe me, by that time of the day, we were glad to have something productive to do while we waited for him! We had already done all the tours, shopping and activities and were filled with nervous energy waiting to see him one last time.

Oh, and Shout Wipes are great. Both of my sailors like them better than the Tide pens.
