Hi my name is Sarah. Recently, I received a packet from West Point with all of the admissions envelopes, information, etc. I noticed under the contacts page, there were numbers to administration workers who dealt with minorities. I am a minority. My question is:

1) If you are a minority, is there any extra paperwork?

2) Do you contact someone?

3) What advantage do minorities have?

Thank You!

Well, as minority myself, there is an Admissions Officer for that case ("Outreach Admissions Officer"). If I am not mistaken, CPT Vallejos should be the Outreach Admissions Officer for the Southwest. He is a great AO.

Good luck!

No

No. If you are a minority, you are assigned to a Minority Outreach Officer.
MAJ Burns is the overall Minority Officer with CPT Varnado being the Far West Minority Officer.

West Point has class composition goals (not quotas) for minorities.
Of particular interest are: African Americans and Hispanics.
(FYI- Asians, in this context, are not considered minorities.)
There is a class composition goal for women too.

No

Thank you buff81! It is a relief to get things cleared up!

Minorities

Truth time - there are special Admissions Officers for minorities. There are "goals" for the number of minorities in each class. Clearly, each person must be FULLY qualified to get in West Point, but if you are a member of a group where there is a "goal" that is an advantage. Anyone who has been an officer in the Army knows that "goals" are VERY close to quotas. However - I say again - that all incoming Cadets must be fully qualified.

better chance of getting a prep school offer, if you are not fully qualified.
