Sorry, this is my last one!
I am a junior in high school (in a month) and I just completed the "Pre-Junior Registration"...now what?
I am a little confused about the whole application process and the order it needs to be done. When do I need to get a congressman/senator recommendation? How would I do this? How do I get in contact with an ALO?
I am just unsure on how to go about with applying? General help, please!

Hi!

Okay...you made the first good move: you joined SA Forums! :thumb:

Now...you've just finished your sophomore year; you have plenty of time, no worries.

The contacting of a Member of Congress for nomination is done in the Spring of your junior year. Think April next year. Contacting an ALO is easy; your HS guidance counselor SHOULD have the ALO's name that is assigned to your school. If they don't, PM me your HS name and address and I will find out who it is...takes only seconds for an ALO to do this.

And by doing the pre-junior registration you've really accomplished most of what you can do already!!! :thumb:

Go into your junior year, nail your classes to have an excellent GPA, start taking SAT/ACT exams to see where you are and whether or not you need more preparation, work on your personal fitness, etc...etc...

Stay on here, ask your questions, research those that have come before, and you'll learn a TON and you'll find a wealth of helpful folks here!

Thank you for your replies! I found my ALO's name and email, but is it too early to contact him? What am I even contacting him about?! I thought I had this all figured out!

madi1131 - in case you haven't seen it elsewhere as you have explored this forum, you should also apply to the USAFA Summer Seminar which would allow you to experience the Academy the summer between your junior and senior year (three 4-day sessions are offered -- try Googling it and you should be able to find general info on it). I believe the application opens Dec. 1 of this year for next summer (if it was the same as last year) and you should aim to complete in the first few days (even tho they take applications much later than that). Our DS unfortunately was waitlisted and did not get to attend but he did attend USNA's program and is now totally committed to applying to USNA and USAFA (which his dad, who was an F-16 Aggressor sqaudron pilot, was glad to hear!). You will need to submit PSAT and/or SAT/ACT scores for this program, so keep that in mind as you consider how/when to prep for these tests (which would mean testing much earlier than most of your peers - but then you can continue testing later and report your scores again, so don't stress too much!). Good luck, and keep reading these forums as I and my DS have done! You will learn so much!

I have heard and looked into the USAFA Summer Seminar! The only problem is that I have a school trip planned for the summer of my Junior>Senior year! I am hoping that I can attend one of the sessions, but unfortunately I do not know the exact dates of my trip NOR the 2012 Summer Seminar Sessions. Thank you for your feedback!

Madi,

Obviously no one here can help you with the dates of your summer trip. However I think that the 2012 I-Day is Thursday June 21. Therefore SS is usually the preceding three weeks which would make the dates May 29-June 2, June 5-9, and June 12-16. Hopes this helps your planning process.

Bump on this question.

If you did all the pre-candidate stuff; then your ALO will know who you are when the time is right. Your name will automatically appear on their list. But if you'd like to email them, that's cool. Now is probably as good a time as any to email them. ALO's aren't too busy yet. They have a couple fast burners, but most won't get too busy until school starts. I would just give a brief introductory email. Say who you are; that you did the pre-candidate app; that you look forward to applying to the academy and working with them. Keep it brief. Best of luck. mike....
