I am coming up to my Junior year in high school. I am a decent student with about a 3.9 cumulative GPA. Approximately when do I start my application to West Point? Do I wait until I am coming into my senior year?

Check out all of the stickies buff81 has at the top of the West Point section of the forum. One of them has a great timeline that tells you what you need to be doing.

Fengawr,

You should open your pre-candidate file (pre-candidate questionnaire) by December, so you can apply to SLS (Summer Leaders Seminar).

Thanks! The hardest part for myself will be telling my parents what I want my future to be.

Why do you want to be an Army Officer?

I've wanted to be in the military nearly my whole high school career. I wasn't really sure exactly what I wanted to do within the military though. Coming up into my junior year, it's time for me to start deciding and putting my plans into action. I want to be an Army Officer because I want to serve my country and lead other soldiers while at the same time gaining leadership skills that can help me in my future careers in civilian or military life.

You wanted to be a military since you joined high school, but didn't know what you wanted to do in it.

I bet you had an idea of why you wanted to join and what you wanted to do.

A mature sit and talk session with your parents should do the trick... But you gotta know why you want to attend a Service Academy and join the Army. This is not a decision to be taken lightly (or misinformedly).

Info, info, info! Know your stuff before trying to propose it to someone else!
