Hello!

I wanted to extend an invitation to all the Kings Point Girlfriends to join the facebook group that myself and a couple other KP gfs created. It is a place to connect with other KP gfs for advice, encouragment, information, and just anything else.

"The Academy Girlfriends have a special bond because we know what it takes to make our relationships work, despite distance and constant separation we never stop loving the Kings Pointers who have captured our hearts. So we have to stick together. :D"
- Jenny Stockford (soon to be Jenny Putnam!)

Seems like it should be "KP Significant Others"... aka gender neutral.

I can see this getting a little bumpy when things go bad with their KPers.

The only reason why we didn't put significant others is because its more for the girls. I don't know of too many guys that would join one of these groups and talk about how much they miss their girlfriends that are going to KP, ask for advice, and all that jazz. But if there are guys that express interest we will reevalute the name.

And my hope is that we can all be mature in the group and if things go bad for one couple then they will act accordingly. In worse case scenario admins can delete and/or block people.

I'm sorry, did you just say you didn't know many guys who would love to join a group of girls who are away from their boyfriends for an extended period of time? HAHA, I think I could name a few. True, they may not ask for advice and all that jazz. :thumb:

HAHAHA that is not the point of this group. But thank you for a good laugh :shake:

This is an excellent idea! It'll be nice to be able to talk and relate to other girls (and guys if they want ) who are in the same kind of unique long distance relationship.

Mongo & Merchant Seamen not gay, LIS.....now maybe if it were to include some of the other academies....

I was actually thinking that the females at KP may have boyfriends....but I can see where you're going with it... haha.

I can just see one girl saying "let me see a picture of your KPer" and then firing off a "hey that's MY boyfriend", and suddenly they have identified a KP "playa".

Oh my gosh, I didn't even think of this problem occuring at all. But yeah, I can see why it could stir the waters. At the same time, it's good to find that out...

I am in no way saying don't do this, BUT as much as you may believe these forums are anonymous, they really aren't. Talk to your S.O. before you decide how much info to share. Yes, it is your life, but it is their life too, and you are creating a forum that is based out of their life. KP is smaller than you can imagine.

Some people want to keep their life private, for various reasons, but for some they may want you to be the person that doesn't talk SA to them...i.e. to them they want a taste of home.

Additionally, some will have a perception of a group like this that they have in the AD military. The running joke for the OSC (Officer Spouses Club) is they are called by some the OS-CIA.

It can be that way, this is coming from someone who sat on 7 boards, 2x as President. Both boards had men on it (old days it the S was a W for wife). They were guys who actually served AD, and quit to follow her career. Tuesdays they'd have coffee with us, Sat. they were playing flag FB with the guys.

Anyhoo, it is important to never blur the lines, which is easier said than done. Your guys/gals are going to say things that maybe they never wanted posted. Like if they boff a test. You may innocently post that you are concerned about him because he had a bad week. Simple enough, no harm, no foul. The following post maybe, my guy too...and all of the sudden other chime in and it no longer is about the week, but you realize it is a particular test. The next thing you know everyone there knows he BOFFED the test. Worse yet, it can become the telephone game; Someone's gf says so and so posted he had a bad week, now maybe he didn't boff the test, but instead his computer crashed with a paper on it and he lost it all. The other guy is going to say...hmm, OH yeah, this week they had this exam and it is a killer I bet he Boffed it. He goes off and tells someone else, who tells someone else, and by the time it gets to him, the cadre believes he is on academic probation.

Trust me, it happens on this site, and that is one reason mods exist. They exist to keep forums going from "I heard" to "it is fact" when it isn't. You all know it happens, think about HS, how many times has the rumor mill churned up something farther than the truth? Once every week probably.

Communicating about the hardships and having relationship born out of commonality is great, and you should go for it, just talk to them about it. The good ones will be supportive and want you to join. The others may say I wish you wouldn't. It is up to you to decipher why.

Finally, the other reason to never talk about what they are going through is sometimes being deaf, dumb and blind aka ignorant is a good thing. I am someone who knew all of the acronyms, but not once in 20 yrs that Bullet flew fighters did I look in the cockpit or do a sim. ride. I preferred not to know what he had to do in case of the something bad happens. It is really hard to not look in Pandora's box if someone opens it right in front of you.

Good luck. I hope you all become a 2%. It happens all the time. Just believe.

P.S. Always remember as the GF, USMMA is their wife. You are their mistress. If you can accept that you will make it.
