..could a MIDN run through kind of a timeline of their time applying to the Naval Academy and also add personal accounts? I know this is a big request and I would largely appreciate anyone who takes the time to reply. Also, your response(s) could serve as a source of motivation for others who read this thread in the future and for me.

Thank you and God Bless.

You won't get many current MIDN responding to this for a good few weeks - and I do not know how many (if any) frequent this forum during the academic year. There are a lot of graduates on here from many times in Annapolis' history, and a number of current Candidates but everyone's experience will have been different.

If it helps at all: I am a Candidate for 2016, and thus far the application has been fairly easy. The only difficult portion is being able to stay on top of everything and keep from getting discouraged. If you have good relationships with teachers and counselors, and can communicate effectively through e-mail (or phone, if it is easier), most of the application is an exercise in patience. I check my status for everything several times a day (even DoDMERB, which I have been qualified for for weeks!); it can be a maddening process.

That may not have helped much. But current 2016 Candidates are the most likely source to get the most up-to-date information on applying over the next couple of years. Most current mids will be very busy once the academic year starts. It's good that you're already trying to find out everything you can, very good indeed. If there's anything I personally can help with, don't hesitate to ask. Although the alums that frequent this board will be far more helpful than me - I'm practically in the same boat as you.

What did your resume look like when applying?
I will be applying this spring

I'm not sure what you mean by resume. If you mean in the preliminary app, I barely remember that to be honest. If you're just asking what I've done, mostly a lot of fine arts (including president of theater and many lead roles in competition plays), good grades, great SAT scores, almost no athletics, Academic Decathlon and some other various high school volunteery things. If I'm way off of what you were asking, I apologize.

Timelines vary from candidate to candidate and there is no "right" timeline. I've worked with some who have everything complete by August 1. Others get their last items in by Jan. 31. I've seen both be successful, although as a general rule, it's better to complete your packet early provided you do a thorough job.

When you take your CFA, when you go for your medical exam, when you meet with your BGO, etc., depends more on you than anything. Some candidates are away all summer (camp, mission trip, etc.) and so don't really get started until Sept. It's not fatal, believe me.

The same is true for noms. Each Member of Congress sets his/her own deadlines and the required documents to submit. What Senator #1 from NJ wants and when he wants it may be entirely different than Rep #32 from CA.

You turn in your packet and then you . . . wait. Update if something important occurs (new leadership post, new SATs, etc.). But you wait. Some hear very early (Nov/Dec); some don't hear until April 15.
