I am just curious if the picture should be a professional picture, like a schools picture, or if it could be like a picture of me running track. It is la full body shot. Or just a nice picture you take of just yourself, because I haven't bought school pictures in 2 years, haha.

I would ask the nomination coordinator for whoever requires the picture. If I remember correctly from last year, I had my full uniform AFJROTC picture in my packet. So it wasn't a normal school picture but it was more professional.

I agree. Ask what they want. My guess -- and it's only that -- is a "head and shoulders" picture. They want to know what you look like before you walk in the door.

You don't need to have a professional photo taken and I doubt they would expect it. If you have a camera at home, have someone take the required picture.

I would agree with my USNA colleague. :thumb:

For my MOC...we request "a photo" but we leave it up to the candidate. We also "expect" that if they have ANY questions, as it says in the package they receive, they will CALL our coordinator.

And if they do, she will say: "A school picture, or a picture of you in a nice shirt, head/shoulders...that will do fine."

If they don't ask...we will look at what they send. And once or twice we've asked "...your picture...what's with that?"
(The picture I remember best was from a beach party)

My congressman's office wasn't too picky.
This is what I did:
I took a picture of myself in long khakis and wearing a polo shirt.
I think it would be to your advantage to wear something decent but show your whole body. Wearing a tight athletic outfit probably isn't a good idea (that is like showing off your body; might get you girls on FB, but just a horrible idea for something formal). Basically, I tried to make myself look desirable to be fitted into a uniform.

you should only be concerned if you are not going to have a face to face interview.

When I had my interview for Senator Warner's nomination, my interviewer told me "off record" that the picture is the only image they have of you prior to the interview, and he suggest that in the future, I submit a more dignified picture, such as my senior portrait, or something involving me dressed nicely to give a good first impression.

Ours required a head shot. We went to the local mall and had it done at one of the kid-pix places. It was fine, actually, it was darned good. I think we bought one sheet ... ended up costing around $30 ... look for coupons in the local paper. I would suggest you reconsider the idea of an "action" snapshot. This is a serious application ... much like a job application (which, if you think about it ... makes sense). If the cost is an issue, well, get someone to take a head shot ... wear at least a polo shirt, if not a shirt and tie, then crop it to the wallet size ... It's up to you ... but why make it an issue ... good luck.
