Hi folks, I had posted a few days ago I was concerned about the Army ROTC Scholarship page not updating or wondering if they were receiving any items being sent to them. Well today they updated most of the things we sent in about 2 weeks ago. See below:

Transcript: Received
SAT/ACT Scores: Received
Interview: Not Received
Physical Fitness Test: Received
School Choice: Received
Academic Major: Received
Medical: Not Received

My DS interview is scheduled for 08/26/11. Will he have to do anything in ref to this getting updated or does the PMS at the school he is interviewing at handle that part?

Also, it says Medical is not received yet. DS went for his DodMERB physical and received a letter stating he was "Qualified." Should he email/fax the letter to CC? or is that something that will be automatically updated?

The PMS will put it in the system, so you have nothing to do with that.
DoDMERB/ROTC can be slow at times. Deathly slow. It might be worth a shot to fax it. No hurt in doing that.

DS emailed in the...

DS emailed in the DoDMERB letter that came in the mail that staes he is "Qualified." But today he got an email back from CC stating that the letter does not say he is Army ROTC Qualified. The agency on the DoDMERB letter indicates its USNA. My son is not applying there but he did apply for the summer seminar and I have learned that they forward that application as an application to the USNA. So that is why he got the notice to go for a physical. To be honest, at that time we did not know it was for the USNA since he had just started his Army ROTC scholarship application we thought it was for that. Anyways, he went and did the physical, hearing, eye exam etc and got the Qualified letter. I hope we didn't make CC mad by sending them the letter that had USNA on it. We are new to this and learning day by day.

My DS has been DoDMERB qualified for USNA and USMA. When he inquired to Cadet Command about the medical there, this was the reply:

If you receive a scholarship offer, you will then receive notification
from DoDMERB in reference to a physical for AROTC.

It obviously comes later in the process.

Another Physical?

Thanks for your input. Someone on the forum had previously stated that the DoDMERB agency would automatically change from USNA to Army ROTC if my DS is actually offered a scholarship and that no additional physical would be given. If someone knows the answer for sure if you would reply that would be greatly appreciated,

Yes, that is true. Once the scholarship is awarded it will say the sources. SA's do the DodMERB in the very beginning, and ROTC does it much later, they are both the same physical. This physical is only valid for 2 yrs. I only state that because if you do not get a 4 yr., but get a 3 yr and took it this summer you will most likely need to do it again prior to contracting since it would be passed the 2 yr marker.

Also remember that one branch may waiver you while another will not, i.e. waiverable for Army, but not Navy. However if an SA doesn't waiver you, ROTC for that branch will not waiver you either.

The PMS wilth whom he interviews will take care of this completely.

As others have said - all the services utilize DODMERB for their physicals for both service academies and ROTC. There is only ONE physical exam and this is good for two years.
The physical is triggered by a request from ONE program. After the physical is completed it is processed for that specific program and a determination is made relevant to that program - which in your case is USNA.

When your son applies to other programs - now AROTC - they will (hopefully) eventually request a physical. They do not do this for everyone anymore as it is expensed to that program (DODMERB doesn't do physicals for free!).
Nowadays, it looks like AROTC will request a physical when they offer a scholarship or when it looks like a scholarship is a good possibility. It's early yet and I would be surprised if they wanted your DODMERB before an offer.

When Cadet Command is ready - say they offer a scholarship from the first board - they will notify DODMERB to schedule a physical. DODMERB will upload your son's name and a current physical will be found! DODMERB will make a determination from that physical as to his qualifications for AROTC and notify Cadet Command of the result. You and your son can rest easy as he is already qualified for USNA!

Hang tight - you are ahead of the game at this point.

Thanks!

Thanks for explaining this to me. I think I am beginning to understand this process a lil' :)

Yes. Army ROTC will not show on the letter until Army ROTC specifically requests a physical. Once they do, they will be notified of the determination based on the Army's standards as compared to your son's results from his DoDMERB physical on record, even though that was "for" the USNA. The physical is the same but the standards are not. That is why you only take one physical, because that's all that is needed. So, it is possible to be disqualified for one program yet qualified for another from the results from the same physical. It depends on the service and the program.

Also, ANY time something is updated or changed or whatever, you will receive a letter in the mail from DoDMERB saying which programs you are qualified for. I have received five letters from DoDMERB in the past month that all say exactly the same thing. Whenever paperwork is shuffled around at DoDMERB, you tend to receive a letter automatically. I have 13 letters from them in all in the one year since I did my physical.

My first thought was HOLY CRAP BATMAN; 13 times in 1 yr?

Did you have a DQ/waiver issue or applied to/for multiple SA/ROTC scholarships?

That makes sense SC regarding the every other day/week response. DS as only an AFA/AFROTC had 1/3rd- 1/4th of the amount of responses compared to you in HIS ENTIRE ACADEMIC CAREER since 07 when he started the process.
