Does anyone know if USNA has a formal ball or event that Plebes are allowed to attend? I keep reading that there are formal events but Plebes are not to attend. If anyone could tell me if that is true or not I would really appreciate it.

Thank you :)

International Ball (affectionately called the Eye Ball  ) @ year's end is open to Plebes. And that's optional, not required. Not much to dance about in year #1.

Hey, do any of you old fart alums remember the "Tea Dance" or, as we called it, "The Pig Fight" or "Tea Fight"?

It was mandatory for Plebes as a drill in social etiquette. Girls were brought in from all around and Plebes were randomly assigned to each of them. Each Plebe had to be her escort throughout the evening at this formal dance. How they were paired was humorous. The girls lined up on one side of a curtain while the Plebes lined up on the other. The point was that they didn't want the Plebes to see, in advance, who they would be matched with. The upperclassmen watched from the loft above in Dahlgren Hall like Roman citizens watching the Christians being fed to the lions. Some of them would yell out to their Plebes, "Move back THREE places!" Ostensibly, they were counting ahead and were trying to help him get matched with a particularly good-looking girl. And, as it always turned out, the joke was on the Plebes. She was hideous.

How politically incorrect would that be now? If you ditched your drag you would be put on report by the upperclass who were tasked with monitoring the Plebes.

Also, I remember that when we stood Main Office watch there was an informal log that was continuously maintained. It was called "The Hog Log". We were encouraged to make humorous notations about any particularly ugly girls that showed up at Main Office - or any particularly good looking ones, for that matter.

I remember one entry went something like this: "This girl was so ugly that her parents made her wear a necklace made of pork chops just so the dogs in the neighborhood would play with her." (Cruel!)

You're right. I should have never talked about this. It's kind of like "Fight Club".

Very Bad PC. But in your days you were probably taught "Ballroom Dancing" and proper etiquette and how to report to a new station and present "your card" to superior officers home as an introduction (at least Army & AF). It has probably changed a lot.. :shake:

Memphis

Outstanding video.......I assume that was not an official sanctioned USNA release

Thanks for the post
