LOA

779 were given to the 2014 class (class size 1375)
432 were given to the 2015 class (class size 1267)
LOAs to the Class of 2016? Who knows but USMA2016 is spot-on!

LOA Drop Rate?

Why such a large drop in LOA's?

I would assume the LOA process is a very thorough analysis,it seems to me,your going to keep the more qualified candidates reviewing other options, due to their concern over whether USMA wants their services?

What is the value in dropping the number of LOA's?

Holy cow. 779? That's like half the class!

Everbody that receives an LOA does not actually choose to attend. Plus some never recieve a nomination or fail DoDMERB. I'm sure quite a few less than 779 actually show up on R-Day.

Haha I forgot for a minute.

I still think that's quite the number. I always thought LOA's have been around 100-200 for years, but to be honest I never think about LOA's.

Why did they give them out so liberally to the c/o 2014?

There were so many excellent candidates to the 2014 class that WP was very aggressive with LOAs that year. The problem was that historically, there was an 81% accept rate. With the 2014 class, there was an 87% accept rate. More LOAs going out, less candidates declining the appointment. Hence that is why the 2014 class went in at 1375, 75 more than WP typically brings in. As y'all know, with LOAs, WP is guaranteeing a spot in the class if XYZ conditions are met. They had to give those spots to the LOAs even though it took them over the desired class size. That is why we are seeing the subsequent classes being smaller in size - to get the Corps back down to the 4,400 mandated size.
With the 2014 class, they were giving LOAs out as late as January (I had a candidate who got one then). Don't expect that this year.

I believe I have read on here that more people are accepting their offers. This means that they have to reduce the number of LOAs, because they might not be spread out geographically like the majority of the admissions offers have to be.
