College Selection/Assignments for AFROTC

Just wondering what the process looks like...

No word on AFROTC Scholarship yet since the first board doesn't meet until December and know it may be a couple of months, but trying to figure out what I need to do next as far as finishing up with my college applications since most are due by the end of December.

Can someone explain how the college selection/assignment process works if you receive an AFROTC Scholarship?

Do you submit a list of colleges where you've been accepted to AFROTC and then they assign you to a college...? Do you rank your college choices? How many total colleges are allowed on your final list? When is the final decision/request due?

Also, I have a new college that was not on my original list of three, but I've received a President's Scholarship for that school -- would I be able to include it on my list? What if I wanted to drop one of the original three from the list and sub in another one? And, do I have to report every college that I've been accepted to?

Know I should finish applying to the three colleges on my original list, but can I apply to others as well? And if so, how many?

Short answer: You can use your AFROTC scholarship at any college that has AFROTC or a cross-town arrangement with a AFROTC detachment provided the college meets the requirements of the "Type" AFROTC scholarship that you've been awarded.

Example: If you receive a Type 7 scholarship you may use it at any college that offers you in-state tuition (non private) and has the type major that the AFROTC program has approved you for regardless of whether they are on your "list" or not.

Bottom line: Forget about your list of colleges.

AFROTC does not care if one school has 100% scholarship cadets and the other has 0%. The scholarship is tied to the cadet and not the school, unlike N/AROTC. The list exists for candidates to know which schools accept AFROTC scholarships.

They ask for the top picks, for internal reasons...mainly manpower needs. For example, if they see that a school is getting more candidates placing them on the list, it would tell them that they need to make sure they have enough staff.

Especially in this economy, it has changed greatly from kids going OOS/Private to IS/Public. That means some dets. will have a greater amount of cadets than yrs previous.
