I was talking to my friend about the academy and he asked what their policy on dating within the brigade was...and I didnt really know.

Anyone know what the academy's policy is of midshipmen dating? (I assumed it would be looked down upon but honestly I have no clue)

Never in the same company, an upperclassmen never dates a plebe (though plebes probably don't have enough time for it anyway). As I understand it.

Definitely NOT within the company or b/t a plebe/upperclassman. Both these are covered under the definition of fraternization. Other companies, okay.

One correction to be candid. Supposedly not within company.

Dating within your company is against the rules, but does happen. ( Usually they try to keep it hush hush.) If a couple is dating, one of the members of the couple is supposed to apply for a "love chit" where they are moved to another company so that they can continue dating.

Correct. And it happens absent the chits more often than one might think. These might come to public light often after the grad/commissioning/hat toss ... when they both show up @ the Chapel in wedding uniform.:eek: Go figure. Guess they realized their love for each other during the ceremony.:shake:

btw, NOT recommended for Mid wellness. Messin' with lit firecrackers. Seems like it's not a "tossable" offense, but it may well be one of those things that should not be tested in case the Commandant is in need of example(s) to illustrate that the law means what it says. Don't tread on this one.

One anecdote from days of yore ... an ex-Mid who'd graduated from a very prestigious U informed that he'd originally attended USNA. When asked if he did not like it, his response was, "I'd STILL be in the Navy but I was found out to be dating the wrong woman. And she's not my wife, either. Really dumb!"
