Upon completing a school's ROTC program, are you awarded a minor in military science? I know this is true at Truman State in Missouri. Is it true for all schools?
A couple tips.
Check with your advisor for your Major, ask what MS classes will count toward your degree. Some schools will count them and some will not.
At some schools the MS classes are all rolled into one class with 1 credit. Some split the classes out and count credits in each class.
I can let you know how my son's school works:
MS1 1 credit
MS Lab 1 credit
PT 1 credit
Ranger Challenge 1 credit
Color Guard 1 credit
If you take all the above you earn 5 credits
I have 2 son's at the same school, one is a History major, all his 300 and 400 level MS classes count toward his Related Fields. This helped a lot in respect to his course load.
My younger son is a Political Science major, only the 300 and 400 MS classes count toward his related fields, not the lab or PT. Still helps though.
At their school if you complete all the MS classes you receive a Minor in Military Science. They both do need to take on approved military history class.
These are good questions to ask during your interview, another question to ask is if the school grades on - and + or just straight A,B,C,D.
Since GPA is so important knowing how the classes are structured and the grading is done is a good idea, it can make a difference in the end.
My younger son was having a hard time deciding between 2 schools, the final decision came down to how the grading and credits were handled.
The biggest thing is to be well informed before you make a decision, ask questions of each school's advisor for your major and of the person you have your interview with.
Good luck.
