What is considered to be a competitive score for the NROTC Marine Option Scholarship? I took mine for the first time today and scored a 259 (14 pull-ups, 100 crunches, and 20:27 run time). I'm going to try to improve my pull-ups and return for another PFT, but as my PFT score is right now, how competitive is it? Thanks guys!

Well I'm just a Dad of a DS who scored in the 270s in the PFT and he did not get a scholarship, although I don't think that was the reason. So I would try to bring it up. It might even help to get a personal trainer if you don't feel like you're making progress on pull-ups. We did that. My DS also got a membership at a rock climbing wall club here and I think that really helped his upper body strength as well. He's now a freshman Marine Option College Program student at South Carolina and he loves it, especially the PT. He just scored 294 on a practice PFT (official is in November). Places him #8 in the entire Battalion so he's whopping some senior butts. Work out, work out, work out to bring that score up. It will pay dividends in more ways than one... keeping in mind they look at the WHOLE candidate. :thumb:

Thanks for the response! I'm gonna be kicking my butt during this next month in order to see if I can bring my max a little closer to 20. I feel pretty confident about my application other than the PFT, although I'm going to try to bring my ACT score up a little bit as well (28 composite)

Good Luck! Hope your dreams come true one way or another! There is always more than one way to skin a cat if a scholarship doesn't come through, but I hope you're successful in getting one.

I did 85 crunches, 13 pull ups and a 19:20 3 mile run. I had a 24 ACT, 3.71 weighted GPA and top 10 of my class (small high school). I was awarded a Marine Corps Option NROTC scholarship, but chose to do AROTC.

I will add that I feel that the interview/essays are more important than the PT score, but good PT score help ALOT. Also, extra curricular activities and leadership positions are something I had ALOT of.

yeah I just got done with the whole process and now I am juut waiting to hear back on whethere I get the scholarship or not. Got a 23 on the ACT, have MANY leadership positions/extracurriculars, 3.65 gpa, and 299 on the PFT so hopefully that is good enough. Taking the SAT soon also, just to boost the app a little. Good luck!
