ROTC Scholarship questions

Hello everyone.

I had a few questions concerning Army ROTC Scholarships...

1. Are they "rolling"? As in, do I harm my chances if I apply later this year?

2. Is there a deadline?

3. Do I choose a college first, or do I apply for ROTC Scholarship first?

4. What are the steps for ROTC Scholarship? As in, fill-in the app, do the interview, APFT, anything else?

5. Would an ACT score of 31 Comp, 30 Math, 28 Reading, 30 Science, 35 English and 30 Eng+Writing comp be competitive?

6. Right now, I'm residing overseas. Would it be worth it to wait 'til January, when I'll be moving to Boston, MA? Or should I just start doing everything right away?

Forgive me for these questions, I am sure you all must be too tired of reading and answering these... I just wanted to have everything pretty clear for me, answered altogether.

3. ROTC and College applications are independent, you must do both to their own deadlines, college deadlines vary a lot.

It is possible to get a AROTC scholarship awarded to a college that you are not accepted at, you must get accepted and get a scholarship to the same school. Transferring a scholarship is possible but not guaranteed. Sounds like State Schools are going to get the bulk of the scholarships this go-round

If you can raise your ACT to 32, it would be worth a lot, like a free room at University of Alabama for 4 yrs, in addition to the free tuition on a AROTC Scholarship, if you have a 3.5 GPA

Now, there's that is not quite clear for me yet... I apply for a scholarship at the same time I apply for college, correct? How does this work? Will I select the colleges I want to apply for a scholarship during the AROTC application?

The processes are somewhat separate. You will apply to colleges, and will have to worry about getting in. You will apply for the scholarship and list the schools you wish to attend. And then there will be the possibility that you will not get an offer to all the schools you have applied to, or listed on your application. I'm sure others on this discussion board will give you all kinds of advice on how to attack this problem. I will just tell you that if you don't want to be an officer in the military this process will frustrate you, and if the primary reason you are pursuing this option is free school you should think twice.

You should start now contacting Admissions offices at schools you are interested in, and you should also talk to the Recruiting Officers at those school's ROTC battalions.

Yes, you select a list of x colleges (don't how how many for Army, 5 for Navy) and the Army takes that into consideration when giving your scholarship to a specific school but if all of the battalions are full, then they may award you a scholarship to a school you never put on your list.

Bottom line, pick your list of AROTC colleges and apply to every single one of them. They won't care if you are given a scholarship to a school on your list that you never bothered applying to.
