I just finished my file for the 4 year ROTC scholarship yesterday and am pretty relieved. Give me some feedback on what you think of my file..

PFT:
87 pushups
58 situps
6:02 Mile

Transcripts:
3.7 weighted GPA
27 ACT
1820 SAT
4 AP classes
Distinguished Foreign language diploma

EC:
Top Teen Attorney in Texas
Boys State delegate
Gold Presidential Services Award
Intern for Two Justice of The Peaces
Sales Advisor for Vector Marketing
Captain of Wrestling, Track, Powerlifting and Football Teams
Lettered in Golf, Baseball, Wrestling, Track, Football and Powerlifting
NHS delegate
STUCO officer
(a few other minor awards and involvement in community)

I was told that I "maxed out" my interview. Does that mean that I got a 200/200 or just filled every category that I could?

My #1 school for ROTC is VMI, so im ready to get on this October Review board and find out what happens! Id love to see how I stack up to others in the graduating high school class of 2012!! Thanks for the input!

Since you are particulary interested in VMI, I suggest you post that on the other forum because that forum really pertains to schools like VMI, Citadel, etc.

I am sure people will give you responses to how you rack and stack for ROTC over here on this one.

justice of the peaces

I think you mean "Justices of the Peace". Just yanking your chain. We don't have JPs in SoCal... we have either police officers or sheriff deputies.

Now, back to your question... you are an extraordinarily strong candidate for AROTC and Marine Option NROTC ... less so for Navy Option NROTC or AFROTC.

Now comes the hard part...Waiting...Good Luck

Just a note, make sure you study the guide on regulation Push Ups to make sure you are doing them to regulation. 87 is a high number even for 2 min. It happens very often that cadets are surprised that many of the PU they do don't count when done during the APFT. Cadets that listed in the 80's in one min. on the PFT are lucky to get 45 to 50 in 2 min. during the regulation APFT. You athletics show you are in good shape just make sure you practice the PU to regulation.

Again, Good Luck

Thank you for the feedback and advice. Patience will truly be a virtue in this waiting game, but I am glad that I got on top of things ASAP.

What are your 4 other school picks. VMI is highly competitive for scholarships, so I am not sure I would bank on that one with the stats you have. I think you will get into VMI, just not positive of getting the scholarship.

I also agree with Jcleppe. 87 PUs are high for 2 minutes if you are doing the correct form. Not saying it isn't doable, but it is best to make sure that you are doing them correctly because once in ROTC they are known to be sticklers, whereas the PE coach usually won't be.

I would also suggest to work on your sit ups since they seem low.

Good luck

My top schools for ROTC are: VMI, The Citadel, Virginia Tech and The University of Iowa. I feel that if I was not to receive the scholarship to VMI, I would to The Citadel...or at least I hope. @Pima, so to clarify, are you saying that I would be a strong candidate for the ROTC scholarship, but not as strong being awarded the scholarship to VMI? What do you think about The Citadel? Are my test scores (27 ACT/1820 SAT) drawing me back that far?

Where are you from? If you are not from VA, I would suggest you take another SAT or ACT if you want to be competitive for VT. Our DD attends VT (not in ROTC), and I can tell you that even for IS, that is just hitting the low end for academics.

DD had a 29 ACT, 1860 SAT, 4.17 wgpa, 9+ APs/IB/AICE and graduated Magna Cum Laude, top 5% of her hs, from a public school where the county system is reknown (NoVA) for being competitive. She went in as a sociology major, which is not their competitive majors, AND she still was deferred from ED to RD. I just saw her congrats letter the other day, and on it for class of 14 it said they had over 33K applicants for 4000 spots.

Side notes for VT:
1. They rarely ever take off the wait list, the highest they have taken off the list in the past 5 yrs was 80 kids. Common number for 4 of those 5 yrs was 0.

2. Since you will be applying for Corps at VT, you do get an edge regarding admissions. I am not sure how much of an edge, but it is an edge, so it will help you.
~ If you quit the Corps within the first 2 months, VT will boot you out of the college regardless of your gpa...mainly because they gave you that admissions edge. So make sure you want that life style.

3. OOS only compromises 25-30% of the student body, and nothing higher. It is by VA state law that they must have at least 70% IS.
~ This can help applicants because they want diversity including accepting students from around the country.
~ It can hurt if you are coming from a state that typically has a lot of OOS applicants because they don't want them all from a few states.

Finally, I can't speak for your chances of scholarship at VT, but I can say it is the largest ROTC unit there so I would guess it will be competitive because of the AROTC system re: allotment numbers.

My suggestion for you is to go to Naviance and see how you rack and stack on there if you haven't already. You can also go to www.collegeconfidential here is a quick link to VT. Kids are already asking for chance me, just make sure in the body you say you are going to go ROTC. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/virginia-tech/

OBTW, Top 25% for VT SAT is 1320 for the class of 14. 45% graduated top 10% of their class. I don't go by wgpa, because every school has a different weight system. Many times colleges will re-weight to their admissions scale. For example, your school may have a 7 pt scale and APs weight is 4.5, another school could have a 10 pt scale with a 5.0 weight.

Then is the other 70-75% of the student body uncompromised by OOS students? And how do the OOS students compromise the IS students exactly? Lack of integrity? Lack of manners? :shake:
