Junior ROTC noms - Whats the reality here?

Hi, I was hoping someone could shed some light into this... I know this subforum isn't frequented as often as the SA subforums but it is the best place for my question.

I am a Navy Junior ROTC and I have a nomination to both the USAFA and the USNA. My nomination to the USNA is through my Senior Instructor who is elgible to nominate me. My nomination to the USAFA is through my school's principal. Since we are an honor school and since I am a JROTC cadet, she is elgible to do this. Both nominations have been processed by the academies.

It goes without saying that I am applying to all of my MOCs. I won't even mention these nominations unless specifically asked:rolleyes:

From my understanding, ROTC cadets/midshipman also compete against me. So my question is: to what extent might these help me? Are these slated slots? How many are picked up off this slate? Would I go into the national pool if I wasn't selected off said slate?

Short answers...

They are nominations; they put you in the "candidate pool/system" and allow you to move forward. That's how they help you.

Are they "slated" slots? Yes. What numbers are assigned? I'm sorry, I don't know precisely so I won't put down a number. I could assuredly find out on Tuesday, but it's nothing you can control so nothing to worry about.

Would you go into the national pool? Yes.

Thank you! The only reason I'm asking is so I have a thought-out response in the event that I'm asked about it at a MOC interview. I'm aware that already having a nomination could have an adverse effect on receiving MOC nominations.

So are you saying if you have a NJROTC nom but you are not one of the 20 to get an appointment, you DO NOT get placed in the pool? If this is true, does the same hold true for presidential nominations?

The first 150 alternates offered appointments will be designated alternates from Congressmen and Senators only. After these positions have been filled, if the class is still not full, three-fourths of additional appointments will be from either the above Congressmen or Senators or from the Delegates of Guam, DC, or Puerto Rica. One foiurth of these additional, after the first 150,may be from all other qualified candidates, to include ROTC and Presidential.
