Several weeks ago, I took an overnight visit to KP.
First impressions: nice campus, small.............Where are midshipman? I clueless wandered into the gym and found the lady's basketball coach who kindly took me to admissions. Since it was the middle of class time, I did not see a single mid anywhere.
I met up with a mid and spent the next 24 hours with him. Lunch wasn't bad at all. I also went to his room and left my stuff there. Unlike some USNA dorms, they all had real beds (at least for his room and rooms nearby).
Mids seem to enjoy having an extra person around- they can now have 6 people in a room.
He took me on a campus tour. The view is definitely nice. I have never been in the NYC area.
Dinner was awesome (I had ice cream). Afterward he took me to visit the club vendors. After going to physics tutoring with him I got read to go to bed.
He had to study and simply let me borrow one of his textbooks on ships... pretty interesting.
The next morning I followed him to crew practice. The coach was nice enough to let me ride along on his whaler. I took over 100 pictures of the nice morning sunrise. The scenery was amazing.
Classes:
I thought classes seemed just like a regular high school class except mids were allowed to eat, stand, or do whatever to stay awake. Cal class was seem to be learning the same concepts i did in AP BC Cal. I was simply encouraged to nap during the mid's 2 hours of physics.
I got to speak with the lady at admissions who i had contacted many times on the phone.
Overall I like KP. I now officially disregarded the bad food and bad dorms rankings I see online. Between USNA and KP, I am leaning towards USNA simply because of a wider selection of majors. If I only receive an appointment to KP, I will attend and not reapply to USNA.
