ACT Writing

On the application, it asks for the ACT Writing score.

Should this be the combined English/Writing score (range 1 to 36) or just the Writing (range 2 to 12)?

It doesn't really matter for the self reported scores, but you can enter the combined (English/Writing) score for the English score and then the sub-score (Writing) for the Writing score.

Is the academy more concerned with just the English and Math Sections of the ACT or the whole composite?

We convert everything into SAT format...your Math ACT becomes Math SAT, your English/Writing ACT becomes Critical Reading SAT, and your Writing (sub-score) ACT becomes Writing SAT. We're aware of the other ACT section scores and the composite score, but primarily focused on those three.

Objee, is it English/Writing or English/Reading that becomes SAT Critical Reading?

Objee, what if the optional writing test was not taken? Would just the English score be converted to SAT format? DS previously took the ACT with Writing, but did not take the Writing part on the last exam.

Yes...if the applicant did not take the ACT Writing Test (we only require they take it once) we would convert the ACT English score to an SAT Critical Reading score.

If we submit two scores both with the writing, will the higher score be counted without the writing portion or with?
 
Objee - Superscoring Question

If the ACT is taken twice with scores of say English 30 Writing 8 and English 31 Writing 7 will this be superscored as English 31 Writing 8? Thanks.

How about this, My son just got his ACT results...he BOMBED it, except for the Reading part...he got a 33. Will the Academy super score that into an SAT score and count it as a pretty good score (better than his SAT reading) or do they only super score within the separate tests? Will the terrible ACT score hurt him or will they ignore them and take his better SAT scores? He is devastated and is concerned that his Academy dreams are over....:frown:

We only combine high section scores from the same type (ACT or SAT) of exam...we cannot combine a high SAT math score with a high ACT English score. Any scores submitted to the Academy will be in the applicant's record, so the CCEB readers will not "ignore" them, but we try to focus on the combined high scores.
