DS's high school sent required documents to USAFA on 8/29. They called him to the office to look it over to make sure everything was there and that they had the correct address. That was three weeks ago today. Still nothing updated on status page. We realize that admissions may be a little backed up this time of year but getting a little concerned. DS sent an e-mail to USAFA admissions conselor on Thursday and again on Friday morning with no reply and left a phone message late Friday afternoon. In the past the admissions contact has been very responsive. DS is unavailable for a leadership activity today but should he have the high school resend everything when he is back at school tomorrow or should we be concerned at this point? He had his ALO interview last week and everything else is 100% complete.

Give them a bit of time between calls and emails. You may want to call the ALO to see if they can help.

I agree with Evil. Admissions is probably buried at this point. I would wait another few weeks before your DS checks with Admissions

Well, DS just received reply from Admissions saying that the school documents arrived very early September but they are still working through those received in August. It should post by sometime within the next week. I was sure that they had to be pretty backed up but we feel better knowing they have it. No one wants to wait for three, four, five weeks and then find out that a document is missing, have to request new to be sent and wait several days to a week for the school to send it out and have the whole thing delayed many weeks or more longer than necessary. The confirmation that they have it helps put both DS and my minds at ease.

Just an update for folks...

Yes, the "USAFA/RRS" folks (that's selections, a LARGE group) is buried right now. And realize...the counselors do the majority of the work for candidates and there are a total of 10 counselors for EVERYONE. Yes, only 10...

I tell folks to call and leave a message with the counselor but don't be surprised if it takes a couple days; they're that busy. I'm an ALO, I know the "double secret email addresses" and yet...even that can take days!

This is just one of those times they're overwhelmed...

Most calls and e-mails my son has sent to his counselor have never been returned. We are not talking days we are talking many weeks. In trying to resolve a problem with getting his cfa from USMA to USAFA he has spent 6+ weeks and has managed to talk to his counselor once and has never had a return call or e-mail question answered. The issue remains unresolved.

Packer,

I may be wrong, but the coach has to submit the results, so wouldn't it be just as easy to have them log in on the AFA site and re-submit the scores instead of getting the SAs to work it out?

Not saying it is right for them to be this far behind the 8 ball, just asking how much longer do you want to bang your cranium against the wall when another solution exists.

Wow, that's really surprising and out of pattern for what we experienced last year and this year as well. My son has a new counselor this year because he is in NM for his prep year and his new counselor has been just as responsive, efficient and friendly as last year's counselor.

With respect to updating the CFA, don't you self report those on the portal? If I remember right, the score sheet doesn't actually get turned into AFA like it does for the other academies.

Having the coach submit the same scores to AFA may be an option if they would give him an answer. The cfa was taken prior to afa opening their application so it has an earlier date on it. I would assume this will be ok but can't get an answer.

Based on what I know from two years ago, you could input your CFA scores on the portal. I believe that if they want the sheet with the scores on them, they will request them from you for verification purposes. So, means you need to keep them in a safe place for awhile. We have set up binders for both our kids with all the academy stuff in them. Really helps when you just have to find that document. DD is in her sophomore year and DS is working hard to make his dream come true.

Packer,
kdc246 is correct, your son can input his scores from the test he took at USMA himself. He just needs to keep a copy of the scores on file incase they randomly ask him for them. (He should be able to get score sheet from USMA if he doesn't already have it)
The date shouldn't have any bearing as long as it was this year.

DD just took hers this weekend, and cfa scores are self reported.

We requested the USNA to send over the CFA scores to USAFA and they were received and processed in 1 day. Emailed his USNA admissions counselor and they handled it all.

Still waiting...

So my DS has been waiting for over a month for his transcrpts to be processed. I told him not to worry about it. Is anyone else in the same situation?

Is a phone call in order?

Thanks!

It seems to take a while to update the status page - especially now due to the flood - but I do know that the internal files are updated much earlier than the page is. The Update page was the last thing updated for us even though my son's file was already complete weeks prior...

Best

It appears that a LOT of people are anxious...
