I got a letter in the mail on Thursday the 22 of September telling me that I need to send in an evaluation from my English, Math, and Physics teachers. I don't remember seeing this on the AFA website and need to know what I am supposed to do. Can somebody explain what I need to do for these evaluations?

Thanks,

I believe it was on the application, the last item listed. Good Luck to you!

I also got this and was slightly confused. The request is for Math, English and Other. I was confused when it said Chemistry/Physics evaluation. We had tried to get these teachers, however they were non-responsive so I went to another "other" teacher. Now if they change it this late in the game, we will be in a bind. We finally finished everything up this weekend, CFA, ALO interview, and Alcohol and Drug statement.

As I recall, the application asks for 3 teacher evals - Math, English, and preferably Chemistry. If Chem isn't available, then "Other". They also strongly suggest 3 letters of rec - not from the same teachers who did the evals however.

They did not change it this late in the game. You need evaluations from your 11th or 12th grade math teacher, 11th or 12th grade science teacher, and another 11th or 12th grade level teacher. These are completed online by those teachers. You need to enter their e-mails so they can login and fill out a short questionaire on you. If the teacher(s) is (are) unresponsive, contact the principal as soon as possible. You deserve a shot at AFA so do not accept a non-response. My DS was active in reminding (politely, of course) his teachers to respond to the questionaire. You will receive notice an your portal when they are completed. Also, DS included 3 additional letters of recommendation from 3 other teachers. I don't know, but I beleive these were instrumental in his appointment. Best of luck on your quest. :thumb:

USAFA requires an evaluation from three of your teachers (English, Math, and a subject of your choice). These evaluations must be completed by three separate teachers. Enter the email address of each teacher below. Be sure and enter the address carefully as USAFA will send an email to each teacher with instructions on how to complete the evaluation. You should enter an official email address for the teachers (preferrably the email address at the school where they work). Be sure and let the teachers know they should expect the message with instructions.

Important! These teachers must be from either your Junior or Senior year. USAFA Selections will reject evaluations from Freshman or Sophomore teachers.

Does not say anything about a science teacher- English, math and OTHER

Also (as we found out )

If they're not getting the email evals in their boxes - have them CHECK THEIR SPAM FOLDERS!!!! -

That is all...

Crair,

In past years (including last year) Admissions has required a Chemistry/Physics teacher recommendation as evidenced by the verbiage of the followup letter received by some candidates. Clearly the science teacher is not required this year per the application page that you quoted. However, USAFA curriculum is engineering-based no matter what degree the cadet ends up earning. All candidates attending any of the prep schools are focused on math, english, and chemistry which is a long way of saying if the candidate can, I would have them get a Chemistry/Physics recommendation. It can only help. If they can't or have already submitted an OTHER teacher, then so be it.

On evaluations and from experience with my DS who is now a C4C and recommendations from those that have been a part of the USAFA admissions process, send in as many quality letters as you can. Letters from coaches or scout leaders etc. Those that can truly speak on your behalf. It might be that extra point or comment that tips the scale in your favor.

Best of Luck!

I stand corrected. Sorry about that.

My daughter is getting a math rec from her current teacher in calculus at the suggestion of her college counselor (her junior math teachers apparently don't have a track record of writing good recs). It being so early in the year, this took some advance groundwork to be laid and a partnership to be made between the teacher and my daughter. So if you're having a hard time with getting a rec, don't assume that your current teacher who has only had you in class for a few weeks can't write a rec for you. If you work on the relationship and try hard to establish some milestones for measurement, my daughter's experience shows that it can work. Mind you, you need to be very proactive and take the initiative. My daughter started the first week of classes and it seems to be working well. The teacher expects the rec to be submitted next week.

Finally all recommendations are at the Academy. I was sweating bullets on the last one. The teacher lost the original email (I believe it was accidentally deleted) so I copied the evaluation from DS application page (which by the way has now changed once again-to call tech support if they are not receiving the email). It was faxed last week, and then I followed up by mailing to his counselor. All letters of recommendations sent as well. I was happy to see that, other than the ALO interview (which we completed on Sunday) everything was finished up. Hoping to have DS write a thank you note to the ALO tonight. Now the waiting game! Many more applications to process, so we will be busy, and swimming will take care of the rest of the wait time.

DS school forms (profile, transcript, and senior schedule) were mailed out of school office on 8/28 and did not update on status page until today. Only waiting for ALO interview to update. Interview was done two weeks ago and checked today and was told that write-up should be done by tomorrow. I hate to even imagine how long it will be before that shows as logged in and reviewed at admissions once they receive it. I know that they are swamped but I am sure that the wait is killing everyone.

If you're like us, you'll get the little white card before the page is updated - I think it's sent automatically...

Are you talking about the white post card saying that something is missing? DS called admissions on 9/16 concerned about school stuff not yet posted to make sure that they had it and received a return e-mail on 9/19 saying that it was there but would be another week or so before updating because they were pretty behind. The very next day he received a post card in the mail saying that they had not yet received the school stuff, transcript, profile, senior schedule and if he was no longer interested in applying that he needed to call them and let them know. We ignored it because we figured it was auto generated and we had confirmation that they had received his forms. Now we are 100% complete except for the ALO interview write-up. We will see if they send a little reminder on that one prior to their review and update while it sits in their office.

Not this time  It just said "Your application is complete". It was also worth an A in one of my son's university classes where the semester class project was completing an application to your number one school of choice!

My DD has only the CFA to complete tomorrow and the process is finally done. Between the senators, congressman and USAFA application, I think she received eight different recommendation letters. Coach told her to have it done soon because she will be included on the first board review in October. If she makes it through in October, when do they offer the LOA?

The ALO interview updated this afternoon! YAY! I was expecting to have to wait on that a couple of weeks, but the interview was Sunday and it updated this afternoon. Couldn't be happier!:shake:
