When does the interview occur/when is it scheduled? When your application is finished?

Just wondering because I haven't heard anything about it.

The ALO interview is accomplished to enable the ALO to accomplish the AF Form 4060. (Boy, that's a lot of accomplish in that sentence!)

"Ideally" the ALO will meet/talk with the candidate at least 3 times. Phone interviews/chats/calls are fine, IMHO, but at least ONE must be face-to-face. I prefer a LOT more; I get to know my candidates.

The interview this year can NOT be scheduled until the candidate has accomplished a list of prerequisite items that are determined by the AFA and the candidate knows what they are. They're part of the admission process; things like:

CFA
DODMERB
Writing Sample
Letters of Recommendation x 3 from teachers
Personal Date Record
Activities Record
Transcripts/school descriptor/etc. (This is from the school and WILL NOT delay the interview)
Drug and Alcohol Abuse Form/Statement **
(This is a BIGGIE this year and you can't move forward until you've been "briefed" by your ALO on this one.

This is just a partial listing...once a certain number of them are complete, the ALO will be given a 45 day suspense to accomplish the 4060 (I'm doing one today) and turn it in to USAFA/RRS.

That's "when" the interview will occur...in other words: IT DEPENDS!

Don't you just love that type of answer!

Whats on the AF form 4060?

A complete evaluation of several categories of leadership potential, background, fitness, etc. It's a "Confidential" form and a completed one isn't for general view and the scoring system is also "Confidential."

That being said, it asks questions about:

A. CHARACTER/CORE VALUES
B. SELF-CONFIDENCE
C. HUMAN RELATIONS
D. PLANNING AND ORGANIZING
E. COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS
F. LEADERSHIP
G. MOTIVATION TOWARD AIR FORCE
H. MY RECOMMENDATION FOR SELECTION

And then there are several "specified" areas that we ALO's write our "overall assessment of the candidate." We get 50 lines total. We're asked all sorts of "subjective" things like: "What would the candidate look like in a uniform?" (think bearing, professional image, fitness, etc.) just as an example.

If your ALO hasn't told you that the 4060 is ALL ABOUT YOU!!! Then you've missed the message. This is YOU wrapped up into several blocks and then 50 lines maximum.

Which is why I say: "Write your I love ME" paper early and often, updating it all the time for the ALO...all the things you've accomplished, nothing too small to mention." Not only does it aid we ALO's who are short on memory space, but it's a great way for YOU to remember things you might have deemed "trivial."

NOTHING IS TRIVIAL when you're competing at this level!!!

I could go on and on but that's basically what the 4060 is.

I was told last year before my ALO interview that the interview with him and the ones for nomination were the biggest job interviews I could possibly have. This is not to scare you, but just make sure you are prepared. My ALO was like Steve (must be something about the AZ ALO's!) in that he wanted to get to know his candidates. For him, he was able to make a better assessment and we were more comfortable with him going into the interview. I remember looking up at one point and my ALO had the "blank computer scren" face, which made me pause, but then I remembered what he had told me before the interviews about taking your time and making sure you present a professional appearance and answer. Make sure you have that brag sheet up to date, with everything. There were some thing I put on mine that I thought were pointless, but my ALO said after that it showed a certain character trait or reminded him of something that I said. This is the biggest interview you will have, so don't be shy. 2016 is going to be a small class so you need every little thing you can get to help stand out of the crowd.

Should I wait until my senior transcript is out (December) to turn it in? Also, I have changed schools moved from one country to another, do I have to turn in from both schools or only my senior year?

You will want to send that in when you can, but don't wait on that part of your application. Send in what you have now, and update your file when you get new transcript. The same is for test scores and pretty much anything else, other than the CFA. You can always update your file with more things, but the board cannot review your packet until it is complete. When you update, they will update the score in that particular category and then restack you, but in all reality, you should only go up with the update that you are sending. The CFA can only be changed if they ask you to retake it, so make sure that is the best it can be before you send it in. Everything else, get the best stuff you have now in and update as noteworthy events or recognitions happen.

Send in all of the transcripts you have from 9th grade on because they want to see how you have progressed through the years, not just where you are now.

You want to turn in your transcripts for every year and school of high school. And no, you don't want to wait until your senior grade 1st semester is over.

In the perfect time-lined application, you would have started it in July when the application process first opened. You would have had your school(s) send in all your high school transcripts, school profiles, class rank, senior class schedule, etc... during the summer. That would have taken you up through your junior year. Then, as you accomplished more; such as updated ACT/SAT tests, you would keep adding/updating your application.

There will be some individuals receiving actual appointments or Letters of Assurance at the end of this month. These are those totally complete with their applications, and have scores in all areas that pretty much pop the bell curve from historical data. Obviously, they haven't submitted senior year transcripts. So submit everything you have now. And that means ALL HIGH SCHOOL transcripts. best of luck. mike....

Son #1 was interviewed by his ALO in July before his senior year, Son #2 sometime later, though I don't recall when (he wore a warm jacket - I do remember that- so maybe october?).

Both appointments (two different ALO's) were made by mutual agreement on time, place, etc. Both sons dressed in business casual type clothing (Khaki pants, dress shirt, dress shoes (not sneakers)). Both sons were ten minutes early. Both sons had a copy of all their forms and transcripts, recommendations, etc with them for the ALO to view in a neat folder.

For both sons, the ALO immediately put them at ease and their conversations were comfortable and friendly.

The B&G officer came to our house to do the interview - on the hottest day of the summer (no A/C).

Can't really add much---I helped my daughter by getting a list of typical interview questions--We have a wall by the breakfast table where I post things --I printed the list up in large print and left it posted for a few weeks before the interview(s). I told her to be thinking of the questions a little every day. (I was a big fan of "Cheaper by the Dozen". )
Starting the week before I made her do a few dry runs--walk in, sit down, pass out resume, introduce yourself, posture, how to sit on a chair. (old school stuff)

I asked her some tough practice questions about homeschooling- she had kind of a "combo" education.
The ALO met her at the high school and we never knew anything, but later he told my husband that he recommended her strongly.
She told me that you do the interview process at the academy when you apply for the different squadron jobs so she got a lot of practice being on both sides of the desk.
She's working now, I went out to visit her, and one of her bosses told me that she was the best prepared 2nd LT they have had come thru in her job-just what a mom loves to hear!
(and it all starts with that interview!)

DS has sent a lot of emails and his liason hasn't gotten back to him. Everything is in but his Drug portion and his CFA and interview. Any suggestions? Also his records are showing on line his class rank that is wrong and his GPA that is wrong. Any suggestion would be helpful. We know his is competitive because last year he got a QNS and 2 nominations. Thanks!

If the gpa and class rank is wrong, have your son call his admissions counselor. Then, while he's talking to her/him, mention that he has finished the entire application except for the interview and drug/alcohol briefing. Mention that he has sent multiple emails to the ALO and they aren't responding. Have them please give your son some guidance and possibly the information to the LOD. (His ALO's Boss). good luck. mike.....

It sounds like your son is in college now? (you said he applied last year?) I may be wrong on this, but I thought they consider reapps later, because they need their college transcripts? I don't think they use info from high school anymore, from what I remember. They will have to wait until end of semester. They may not be sending your ALO the notification to interview you yet because of this. Again, not positive on this, but just a thought

This sounds right to me as well. College transcripts are definitely a required component of a reapplicant's package. I'm sure CC or Flieger will chime in to provide their usual insight and clarity on the timing of ALO interviews for reapplicants.
