My son just found a change but really no change to his NROTC app. page. It said they received his application but not selection has been made. It further showed a line item by line item of the basic information in his application. Example: Name, address, DOB, five top schools, etc. Does this mean that he did not make the first board and moves to the next? Or... Is it a web site software update? I have not seen the forum light up with activity so there is come questions left to wonder. Any feedback is welcome, thank you in advance...

It can mean 2 things:
1. The pile was so high with applicants that they did not "board" him, thus no so selection.
2. He met the board, but at this time no selection has been made.

The thing about number 2, is to understand the boards.

NROTC is like AROTC, but unlike AFROTC. The school selection list will play into the decision factor. Thus, it is not only matching the scholarship type, but also the school. It gets worse for NROTC, because it is also tied to the major, whereas, AROTC is not, and AFROTC is. That is why IMPO people say NROTC is the most competitive scholarship out there.

He could have filled the list with matches, but the big draws...ERAU, PSU, UND, VT, GT. Academically he could be a shoe in for all of them, but because scholarships are limited and tied to the unit, he may be on the cusp, so they want to see a larger pool before they make a decision.

My heart every yr goes out to A/NROTC candidates and thankful DS is AFROTC. It is hard enough to go through the college admissions process these days, but to sit there and worry about getting a scholarship when it is tied to a few schools on the list would cause anyone to go out and buy a bottle of Jack.

Don't read into this as NO scholarship will happen, read into it they are verifying his info, and WILL be reviewed again even if he was boarded.

I can't recall, but I believe he is also applying for the SA's. If he is applying for USNA, have HIM contact his BGO. At least for AFA/AFROTC, the ALO submits the rec to both boards. IF that is the same, his BGO maybe able to use their contacts to get insight if he met the board, and if so why a scholarship did not come down.

Don't pull out the Jack yet. Use this time to see if you can also update his packet...i.e. he just got elected SC VP, or got an NROTC award.

As I posted on another thread, you are in great company, many, many, many candidates last yr were re-boarded and are on scholarship as freshman this yr. It can be as simple as it is a limited number of spots at the school, and they are finding which school they should award to.

My daughter got the same message as the OP.

Pima,

Do you know when the 2nd board will meet?

my application status now reads:
Application has been submitted online Your electronic application has been received and is being processed ...
Your application is at Naval Education and Training Command for final processing and selection determination. Selection decisions will begin in late August and continue until the end of April. Once a selection decision has been made, your new status will be reflected.

not sure if i met the board or not. though I think nursing boards meet at different dates? is that correct? thank you.

Not certain about the dates but I do know its a different board so it seems logical. If the nursing board was held you may not have met it, or they didn't select you at this time and you will be re-boarded (reviewed by the next board). It's a nerve-wracking experience with all the waiting. My DS and I went through it last year. I was checking every day for months!!!

Hang in there! :thumb:

Ditto here. Son interviewed in Aug. No results posted yet.. Quite anxious!!!!

You'll have to be patient. You may not get the final word, one way or the other, until April.... or anytime in between. Good Luck! :thumb:

P.S. We didn't finally get a rejection until April but DS is still attending his #1 school and is participating in NROTC as a college programmer. We were fortunate to get a merit scholarship from another source which made this out-of-state school much more affordable. We're hoping to pick up a 3 year or 2 year scholarship, or even just advanced standing later on. One way or another my DS will end up being a Marine Officer. Point is.. have backup plans and don't give up the dream.

You will not have immediate turn around. NROTC receives thousands of applications starting in April.

Final decisions will be released in April 2012, if you are not notified prior.
