October board question

So, I have been told that my file is board ready for October. I took the Sept ACT (third time) hoping to bring up my score a couple points (have a 28 now). I put in over 40 hours of prep-goodness I hope it's better. Sad thing is I am the only person in the universe who hasn't received scores back yet. If I do get scores back this week-and it's better- is it too late to get it to my file?

The deadline to submit anything is Oct. 10th. After Oct. 10th you can still send in your new ACT scores and they will update your application for the next board if you are not selected by first board. Your new scores will not be added to your application for the first board since the deadline is Oct. 10th.

One thing to remember, the only thing that can be updated after Oct. 10th will be your ACT/SAT scores. You will also be able to add, delete, or change your school selections in between the boards. These are the only two items you can change once your application is past the first deadline of OCT. 10th.

Good Luck

I dont think that you can change your scores on the actual application. I tried but the system would not let me. I just took a pdf document and sent it to cadet command and followed up with a phone call to make sure they were added to my application file.

You can also retake and update your PFT (or whatever YOUR branch calls the physical fitness test)

This is the correct procedure. Of course you can also have the scores sent straight to ROTC, but I would still do this step.

I don't believe you can update your PFT for AROTC after the first board deadline.

Could be. I'll take your word for it. I know for Navy you can and just assumed it applied to all branches. Thanks for clarifying.

If I am deciding between two majors will that be a problem since you said you can't update anything but your ACT scores and school selection?

Also, about how long does it take for the board to review the applicants and send out information to everyone whether they received a scholarship?

It's quite possible you won't hear until April. People who have received scholarships will be notified after the board that awarded it. People who did not receive it will be re-boarded and reviewed by the next board. Final notifications one way or the other are not done until April.

You should pursue plan B in parallel with these reviews while still patiently hoping for plan A to come through. I know its nerve wracking. We went through it last year. Fortunately plan B still put DS at first choice out-of-state school and he is participating in NROTC MO as a college programmer; so we're still able to chase his dreams.

Also, NROTC will allow you to change your major up to some point. DS changed his last year. Don't know the end point... and your branch/mileage may vary.

Good Luck! :thumb:

I'm going to assume you are asking in regard to AROTC.

I would imagine that you have a Major already selected on your application, if you haven't then your application will not be seen by the first board.

If you have selected a Major and are thinking about changing it later, that's a different story. If you are thinking of switching majors that are both in the same Category then you should be fine. If you looking to change from say History to Civil Engineering, you should be fine. If you are looking to switch from something like Civil Engineering to History then you could have some issues. It has been discussed a bit here that it will be harder to switch in that direction if your scholarship is awarded based on the engineering major.

To be honest I am not sure if you can switch your major once you have been boarded, my guess would be no but I would check with your ROO to make sure.

It took a little over 3 weeks to hear back the results of the first board last year. It took almost 2 months to hear the results from the second board. The best thing you can do is be patient, it's tough but the results will come eventually.
