Just for clarification; The AROTC scholarship application is an online application correct? When you click "submit" after each page, the application is ready to go? Is it necessary to print the file? We've had difficulties with the print feature, so we opted not to do it. Now I'm wondering if we actually should print it to have our own copy.

No. It's not necessary to print. We had the same issue last year.

Priniting AROTC Scholarship....

I would print it, a few years back my DS apllied for an ROTC Scholarship and my DS printed his. He had a very nice file for reference, when he spoke with someone regarding his application. But it is all in what a person wants to do.

Without a doubt print it.

You want to create a file that is ROTC and keep it for their entire collegiate career.

We did that and glad we did. You can't believe how often we had to refer to it, i.e. last DoDMERB physical, date submitted, date accepted.

They want the actual date, not month and yr.

It is also proof that you submitted it on time and properly.

Plus, believe it or not you may find errors in the submission that when looking at the screen you missed...i.e. you submitted your SSN as 123-45-6789, but in essence you wanted to type in 123-45-5678. You skimmed and it didn't glare out to you. You could have done that for a phone number or address.

This also will come into play 4 yrs from now when they go for their TS clearance. TS clearance is over 50 pages long, and basically requires you submit every piece of their life since birth, including jobs. DS knew he worked at his job from July or August for 3 yrs until June or July, but because we had his scholarship application, we had the exact dates, and the name of his supervisor. Think about it, in 4 yrs., will they know the name of their boss from HS? That special agent from the govt., will be understanding that he can't remember the last name, but it makes it soooo much easier if he can give full and not partial info.

If you have issues printing it, try using a flash drive, and at least you can keep that for ref.

Off topic, but I would also ask your doc to copy their medical records onto a ROM. Once they turn 18, they are legally an adult, and some docs will not release their records to you due to privacy laws. Having it on a ROM will allow you to assist them in the G forbid situation. It is even harder for them to get info at college far away from home and the clock is ticking to hand over the info, the ROM allows them to download and submit. Docs will place it in a sleeve with a label on the back for their contact as proof.

We also placed in that file his original Birth certificate, SS card and passport. Copies are not acceptable for contracting (at least AFROTC).

Well, I printed it, but I don't see how this can be used as proof that it was submitted on time and correctly. There are no dates. It's a very plain, basic pdf file and not even all the info is included on it. For instance, my son is a member of the Nat'l Honor Society and the box is checked online, but it doesn't appear at all on the pdf printed version. I sure hope the Board gets the full application. Today is the deadline.

Bop28: I agree the AROTC application print-out is not very useful. It is nearly impossible to verify that entered information is correct. If you submit any updates you must pretty much take it on faith that they were entered into your file. We could not find a way to actually view the file again once it was submitted.

Interesting.

Our DS went through this 4 yrs ago and with the AF. It wasn't that way. It actually had a page we could print that said submitted X date and Y time.

Like Packer stated once submitted the file closed and we could not ever view it again.

Maybe, we just kept saving it along the way. I don't know, just know we have a boat load of his paperwork from the start of the process. Still have the letters of rec.

One thing I will say to lurkers and future candidates, no offense to Bop28, never wait until the due date for a board. Get it in early because you want the ability to call and verify that they have it in hand.

Bullet was ADAF for 21 yrs. This is pounded into the craniums of AD members up for promotions. Check your records. They actually start sending out warning grams 6 months prior to a board. Things get lost, get inputted in correctly, it is your responsibility to verify. We have seen people passed over for O4 and 5 because they trusted the system. They had to go to an appeals board, and not one of them ever had the decision overturned. Only 1 made it above PZ.

I don't have an issue about waiting to have the best stats, and I do not want people to infer I am being antagonistic against Bop28, I am not. I am just illustrating that you need to find a balance.

Bop, it is out of your hands now. You did everything to get it in on time. The only way you will not be committed to an insane asylum as a parent of a military member is to believe in FATE and/or Destiny. If you start 2nd guessing everything, or worrying about the what ifs, you will not only go nuts, but your child will close down that communication line out of frustration.

You don't want that. I would be at least 50% of the posters here will get the TWE if you use all 3 ROTC branches. However, I would say that 80% are in ROTC now even without the scholarship.

They decided their fate was to find a way to pay for it, but their destiny is still the military.

When we say welcome to the roller coaster ride, we aren't being glib. This ride you are on now, as long as they stay in the military will just keep going until they get off.

Good luck.

All good advice. Thank you. We did get everything in early and I know it's out of our hands now. Scholarship or not, our son will be in the AROTC Nursing program-one way or another....now if I can keep myself away from that insane asylum!

Bop28, like you we submitted everything earlier but couldn't resist giving the application another look now that D-Day is here. While this will probably provide little comfort for you, we also found discrepancies between boxes checked on the application and what appears on the PDF.

All you "a couple years ago we....." kill me. If you haven't figured out this process changes every year. If you are operating on information that is two years old you will be lost. I just got a call from a guidance counselor that couldn't understand why the old application his student had filled out wasn't going through to Fort Monroe. He had an old application and wasn't tracking that it needed to be done online. Check your status often, and keep in touch with your ROO and you will have the best chance you are going to have.

Always good advice from you! But, I emailed our son's ROO last week to see if he was "board ready" and he said if all the items said "received", we were ok and to be patient. He said that he wasn't able to get into the scholarship status to actually check his status for us.
