Question about the BFE's

When is the latest a BFE is sent out?

This is kind of a loaded question. There are several answers that could apply. The majority go out in February and March. I know my daughter(class of 2014) received hers very late in the game. We found out about the appointment on May 2nd, 2010. So in answering your question, they can go out very late when you consider I-day is late June. At least a few years ago, they did. With the cutbacks they will probably be full before that May date, but there is always the possibility. Not trying to give false hope, just telling of my families experiences regarding BFE's.

Actually...there were some in mid/late May...I'm not sure if one or more were sent in June but that's is NOT uncommon.

The "last minute" and "late fill" BFE's do happen.

One of the most famous members of my class (2x Gold Medals in the '84 Olympics) didn't get his BFE until about 10 days prior to our report date, if my ageing memory serves.

Hi, Flieger!

Regarding the possibility of a "late" BFE, do you know if they send them to that much smaller, narrowed down pool of Candidates who had not yet been sent a TWE? Or...does the possibility exist where they might "take it back" and send it to someone who had already gotten the (QNV) bad news? DS is very motivated to go to the USAFA, but he’s also wisely preparing a good ‘Plan B’ and I wondered if he would know for sure either way when that much-anticipated fat/thin envelope finally arrives.

BTW, haven't yet had a chance to tell you personally, but as many here have said to you and the many other SAF veterans, "Thanks for all your advice and support!"

What exactly is in a BFE and a TWE?

BFE contains Instructions to Appointees and a bunch of forms which need to be returned to AFA. If memory serves it includes measurements for uniforms, medical release forms, life insurance forms, and AOG information.

Not sure about a TWE, but I would assume it is just a letter informing the candidate that they are either not qualified or they are qualified with no vacancy.

Good Luck.:thumb:

Exactly right. Last year there were many fully qualified candidates with a nomination that received a TWE. That is why it is so mportant to have a solid B plan.

I hope I never get to know whats inside a TWE!

It's a tactful "Thanks, but no thanks" letter.
But if that comes, don't lose hope for a letter to be a sponsored prep... that's what happened to me! I know they're pretty uncommon but if you were 3 Q'd with a nom there's always that chance.

Best of luck! Hope to see ya there next year! :)

Hi!

LATE appointments go to many "categories" of candidates. I have seen folks waiting and waiting...and then suddenly, IT ARRIVES!!! :yay:

I've also seen/heard of the candidate that waited...and waited...and then, the dreaded TWE appeared in the mail. And then...later...the BFE arrives with a letter saying nice things, basically revoking the TWE, and offering the appointment.

These things can happen any number of ways.

Part of what makes the wait so blasted miserable. And reinforces the benefit of an outstanding "plan B." :thumb:
