Went to the mailbox and there is this big envelope from the Air Force Academy. Turns out that it contained the 2011-2012 Catalog along with a University Parent Guide. Had our hearts racing for a bit. Is this SOP to receive these things once the application is complete?

Fun stuff. Some people start watching for the mail delivery EVERY day as it gets closer to appointment time. Sorry that you didn't get a BFE yet. And yes, I'm sure each qualified candidate will get that catalog. I know we did last year.

Already downloaded ours... Hope they save the postage.

well - the USPS could probably use all the help it can get...

I forgot to warn my daughter about the potential BFE Catalog mailing...
She brought in mail yesterday, suddenly I heard her say "Mom, come here" in a very shakey voice. Having already rcvd the BFE with appointment from USNA, she was getting excited and emotional when she saw the big fat envelope from USAFA admissions. By the time I got to the room, she had already opened the envelope and was in tears when she held up the book and exclaimed: "its just a stupid catalog"
I felt awful for not warning her...I usually get the mail so didn't think it would be an issue. Talk about PSYCHE!

Reminds me of the scene in "A Chrismas Story" when Ralphie received his decoder ring in the mail. Be sure to drink your Ovaltine!

It does doesn't it? We've just been trying to ignore it and soldier on with the plan B apps - my son is facing early application decisions in the next few days from institutions as close as Auburn and as far away as Norwich. The more options the better! Particularly with AU - it's a very close second to USAFA on his short list - Admission there will perk him up pretty good (and depress his step-mother who went to Bama) :yllol:

The postage was over $4 for this catalog. Multiply that by a few thousand applicants and that is a huge chunk of change. I would think that they would hold off until an offer was made.

Particularly since it's available online... Hey CC or Flieger - make a suggestion to the money saving program and save the taxpayer some cash! If people request a catalog, USAFA should send them one, but in this day and age a simple email to an applicant with a link should do it.

Kid got a call from Norwich - He's been accepted into the Corps of Cadets and the Electrical/ Computer Engineering program. - If he ends up attending the school, He will be the first of our family to do so since the Civil War... (Kinda Adam's Family isn't it... :eek3:) Plan B rolls along.

My son just received a call today from Norwich also. He was accepted into the Mechanical Engineering/Corps of Cadet. At least he has Plan B, now onto Plan C, D, E,& F. But obviously, they would all go away if Plan A happens. Good Luck to all other potential applicants! Keep working hard!!:thumb:

I love this thread

This thread makes me feel right at home, my son applied to two of the service academy, Air Force being first on his list. We also go to the mail box every day waiting to get some sort of news. We did not realize when he started to apply what a selective process this was. I also love to read the stats of other applicants to see how everyone compares.
My son 4.0 GPA
1st in class
Captain in three varsity sports / 9 varsity letters
Wrestling state champion and 2x wrestling All American
Plays for our county youth symphony on marimba / 2x State medalist
2 x State bench press record
2011 high school athlete of the year
ACT scores 31 in English and Math
Started high school battle of the books high school drum line
Maxed out on 3 events on CFA but very near max on all
Still waiting for the blue catalog or anything

Maybe they'll be Rooks together!

Romad, I think they would rather be "Cadets" together, but at this point, my DD will take being a "Rook" if he has to. Good Luck to your DD!

Gotta keep the faith! That area of Vermont is just beautiful too - even though I know my son (and yours) would much rather be looking at the Rockies...:shake:

I just got my "big envelope" in the mail today. Nice to see something other than a paper telling me my packet isn't complete. =o

My son also received his big blue catalog today, now that the trickery is over time for the real waite, I guess!
