Am I under the correct assumption that the MROTC program does not require an interview and does not require a physical test? I just started my application today.

If you are referring to NROTC-Marine Option, you are incorrect, at least based on last year's applicants. DS was interviewed and had to take the physical fitness test at the same time as the interviews were held. Photos were also taken. Physical Fitness is VERY IMPORTANT. As far as we know, only those scoring 1st class in the PFT were offered scholarships. Maybe someone else will jump in that knows otherwise...

hmm, thats interesting, the checklist mentions nothing about that. I would think that they would have a PT and interview just as the AROTC did but they didn't list it in the check list as the AROTC did

Once you submit the app your local Marine Officer recruiter will contact you to schedule the interview and PFT, which must be done prior to the recruiter submitting your package for review. Again, this is how it worked last year.

The MO PFT consists of pull ups, sit ups, and a run (pretty sure it was 2 miles.) DS was interviewed by two Marine Officers.

The run is 3 miles. The goal is 18 minutes for a max score on the run. Max pullups is 20 and there is no time. 100 crunchs in 2 minutes for max there.

ASticks: bjc is correct. For a NROTC Marine Option candidate you first complete the NROTC application on line. You will then be contacted to schedule an interview with a Marine Officer and take a Physical Fitness Test. An official photo will also be taken. Most often these are all done on the same visit.

The Physical Fitness test consists of max pull ups, max sit ups in 2 minutes and three mile run.

Are you a current HS Senior? You will want to get that application done as soon as possible in order to get everything done and have your packet sent to a review board.

Good luck!

Thank you all very much, this helped me a lot. But does anyone know the dates of the boards?

I have no idea about this year, even how many they are going to have. But last year they held 2 boards, the first being in October and the 2nd was in late February or early March, I believe. Hard to keep them straight between NROTC and AROTC. My memory is not what it used to be!

ASticks: No one knows the dates nor how many boards. It is a closely held, confidential secret. If you poke around on this forum you will see a lot of guesses - mostly after the fact as people start to hear the results and work the calendar backwards.

Best advice - get your application in asap but not at the risk of being anything less than your very best. You only get one shot at this process.
