Son just got his AROTC letter today. Consistent with what was on the website he was offered his first two choices, both private schools. He was offered 4 year to first choice and 3 year to second choice. Letter asks for a response by December 1st, and in the response he has to pick one of the two schools.

Obviously, he is very happy to get any offer, but a little overwhelmed right now with having to choose by 12/1, because he is now leaning more towards his second choice. Anyone have thoughts on how hard it would be to have the 4 year offer moved to the second choice school? Schools are about the same cost for tuition.

Interested in hearing other offer details.

PP Congratulations.

My son received letter today as well. 4 Year to out of state and 4 year to in-state, both public. They are his number 1 and 3 choices. My guess is he will be ready to sign the letter and mail it by weekends end.

A couple things to think about. Your #2 school may have designated that he only receive a 3 year, so asking to tranfer the 4 may be counter to what your #2 wants. If costs are similar normally Cadet Command would probably grant the request, so there may be an underlying reason why he got a 4 and a 3 year offer. Be prepared to pay for the first year if #2 is a better fit. It also can't hurt to ask. Talk to the PMS/ROO at #2 and see what they say. As we say over and over, this process changes every year, so our advice should be taken with a big grain of salt.

Thanks Clarkson, he will be checking with number 2 on Monday, and will move forward based on that discussion. Could you offer a few reasons a school would prefer a cadet to get a 3 year versus 4 year? I initally think size of the group would be the issue, but based on my read of my sons letter he would be expected to attend ROTC classes during his freshman year even though he is not on scholarship.

Thanks again for your earlier response.

Glad to read that letters are arriving!

I am so glad to read that folks are getting their official letters now. We have been waiting anxiously. Since we are on the west coast, I expect we may have to wait until Tuesday or so. It's also good to know that there seems to be a December 1 deadline (at least for some).

Thanks for these updates.

Congratulations to all the outstanding young men & women who have earned this amazing opportunity!
