Great news! Once again the Mariners of KP lead the way. Congrats to Coach Smolens, the players and the parents for another great win. It is getting to be the "norm" for the soccer team to have successful seasons. Here's hoping this year the Mariners make it well past the Elite 8 and into the final 4....it could very well happen.

Go Seagulls! (I thought that was the mascot, I always see some seagull costumed character at the games). It would be incredible to see them go far.

 You'll have to explain this one. Lead the way.....?

That "thing" came about my senior year. I think it is technically a "sea eagle" or something, but let's just say was not roundly supported as the pick by the Regiment.

We much preferred our ole Capt'n Morgan character.

Yep I too wish we'd bring back the Marinier, of course I'd even support some sort of product tie-in with Captian Morgan's if it wasn't against NCAA rules and it help fund soething the regiment needed. Of course I'm not considered the best judge of making sure things are politically correct or in concert with current public opinons on such matters. But just to make sure I'm not off base I'll go out and ask the next four Prius drivers I see what they think...

Unfortunately they lost to Rutgers-Camden 4-2 on Saturday.

CAMDEN, N.J. -- The U.S. Merchant Marines' quest to go deep in the NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament for the second year in a row ended with a 4-2 first-round loss to Rutgers University-Camden on Saturday night.

The Scarlet Raptors (17-2-2) will play Wesleyan (Conn.) on Sunday at 5 p.m. Wesleyan (11-2-3) recorded a 1-0 win over Misericordia University (13-3-4) in the second game of the doubleheader.

Freshman forward Corey Beltran led Rutgers with two goals, one in each half.

Senior forward Andrew MacKenzie and midfielder Kyle Arestivo tallied for the Mariners (11-7-1), who had hopes of reaching the Elite Eight for the second consecutive season.

"We played an excellent match, but weren't able to do enough to get the victory," Mariners head coach Mike Smolens said. "Coach [associate John] Fitzgerald and I are proud of the way our guys battled back after being down 1-0 and then 3-1 against a talented team from Camden, which is one of the hottest teams in the country.
