Hello,

I have read on previous threads that sometimes DODMERB reviewing a ROTC application usually leads to a scholarship offer. Which leads me to this, I was offered an Army scholarship from the first board but has not shown up on the DODMERB portal. I looked at my portal today and it shows that I am currently being reviewed for Navy ROTC. Could this mean that I have been awarded a scholarship from the Navy or could it be some sort of typo? Navy is by far my #1 option and I just don't know if I should be excited yet or what? Oh, and I would like to thank everybody on this board for all the help they have given me ever since joining this site two years ago. This site has proven to be invaluable to me throughout this process. I know for a fact this site is probably the biggest reason why I got the Army scholarship in the first place (hopefully Navy as well). Anyways I'm going to stop rambling on now and just end with a big THANK YOU to everyone that has taken the time to help me through this tedious journey. It has meant a lot to me and my family.

I'm new to this. My daughter has applied for the AROTC scholarship and submitted her paperwork in time for the first board but re-took her SAT on 10/1. I don't think that score was submitted in time. However, my question to you is, when did you hear you were a scholarship recipient? My understanding was the board met 10/17 and notices probably wouldn't go out until next week or the following week. Congratulations to you!

My son found out on the 28th. The earliest ones posted on here were the 27th.

NewROTCMom - As you may know, you can check the status of the ROTC scholarship online:
https://schlr4yr.usarmyrotc.com/scholarshipstatus/status.asp

If a scholarship was awarded, you would see language similar to:

"You have been offered and Army ROTC Scholarship..."

If not selected during the first board, then you will see status of all documents (Received or Not Received)

I hope this helps!

Will We Need to DODMERB Again?

My son was medically qualified by DODMERB as part of his USMA application. Will he have to go through the process again now that he has been offered an ROTC scholarship? Or will ROTC simply accept the previous DODMERB qualification?

It would seem silly to do it again, but I was in the military just long enough to know that it doesn't always make sense.

No, ROTC will request one, and DodMERB will supply it to them. Many times the SA candidates get a hint that they are going to get a scholarship because all of the sudden the ROTC pops up on their page.

At least that is how it happened for the past few yrs.

That happened for me. "Navy ROTC" was added to DoDMERB the day before my application status page on the NROTC website was updated. It may even have happened at the same time; I only thought to check the NROTC website the next day.

DS received a letter in the mail today from DODMERB stating he was US Army ROTC – Qualified in addition to US Military Academy - Qualified. (He had previously received a letter stating he was qualified for USMA.) DS has not received a letter in regard to a scholarship and his status page has not changed. His DODMERB status page shows the second review was added November 4, 2011. We thought ROTC did not submit names to DODMERB until after someone was notified they received a scholarship. Are we confused?

It seems to work a bit differently for those that apply to both AROTC and USMA. Since your son has already taken the Dodmerb physical and was qualified for the USMA they have just gone ahead and listed him as qualified for AROTC since he has applied for the scholarship as well. You are not submitted to DODMETS until you receive the scholarship, since your son is already qualified through Dodmerb they will not have a need to notify DODMETS. DODMETS is the system they use to schedule the appointments.

In a nutshell, your son is medically qualified now for both AROTC and USMA, now he just waits to see if he gets the appointment or a scholarship, it does not mean a scholarship has been awarded.

My DS had previously been qualified for USMA. He found out last week that he received an AROTC scholarship. His DoDMERB status did not change to Army ROTC pending (he has since qualified) until after the AROTC status page had been updated to reflect the award. The official packet didn't arrive until later.

DoDMERB packet received but no scholarship status change

My son applied for an AROTC scholarship and was 1st board ready. Status has not changed, so no scholarship offer after 1st boards. He received a DoDMERB packet in the mail Sat. 11/12/11,
requesting him to proceed and complete his exams. Still no status change. I thought you only received this packet after you were offered a scholarship. very confused, is this a good sign for second board offers?

It sounds like Dodmerb is doing what they did last year.

There were a lot of applicants that were sent the Dodmerb Packet after the first board last year. These applicants were not selected the first board but still received the packet. This does not mean a scholarship offer is being made. The explanation given for the early medical was that applicants that were deemed competitive were sent for the physical.

Some applicants that had early Dodmerb received a scholarship from the last 2 boards, some did not, it seemed to be an even split.

The best advice is to go ahead it follow the directions and get the physicals. One advantage is that if anything comes up you would have a longer time to work through the waiver process.

Your son will go before the next board in Jan. The early Dodmerb while not good news is not bad either, but it doesn't mean a scholarship is being offered at this time.

Good Luck to your son.

Thank you Jcleppa for your insight. I do not know how we would navigate through this process without this wonderfull website. Son has all paper work in to DoDMERB and Dr. appointments set. Now we wait again. Seems to be a reoccurring theme. Meanwhile , if no scholarship comes out of the last two boards he has his plan B in order.

My DS was one of the DoDMERB selected applicants after the first board that Jcleppe referred to from last years boards. Getting the physicals out of the way(and having extra time to clear any waivers)will be a big comfort while continuing to wait for the final two boards. Wish I could say the early DoDMERB had indicated a scholarship later being awarded, but in DS's case, no scholarship was ever offered. Plan B,C and D were kept in place so he is currently at his 1st choice school and doing well. This website was incredibly helpful to us as well(and continues to be a great window for seeing the future hurdles he still needs to negotiate). Good luck to your family as you continue forward with DoDMERB, future boards and all the rest of ROTC:smile:
