When does c-split midshipman go out to sea? When will the midshipman that do not have a ship yet go out ot sea?

There are only A and B splits, no C splits. Total for each split out before 1/class year is 1 year, split into 4 months 1st time out, then 4/4 months last time out.
As one split returns, the other leaves.

B-splitters go out after school ends their plebe year.
A-splitters go out 4 months later
B-split goes out March of their 3rd class year for 8 months (4/4)
A-split goes out November of their 3rd class year for 8 months (4/4)

Yes, the first time most of the mids will see each other is when they are 1/c, all back on campus together, with no more sailing. Just working like heck to graduate the following June.

There must be a c-split because there is a midshipman who did not get to go out on his a-split because of an injury and he has been told he will do the c-split. We are still waiting to hear when our son will ship out for his a-split because there isn't a ship assigned to him yet.

I just asked DD about c-split. She called it this "magical new thing" they have come up with to deal with people who don't get to go out to sea for various reasons. (Sorry, but I couldn't resist sharing that description.) They are enrolled in what classes they can take so they are getting course load out of the way while they wait. They should go out to sea at the beginning of the next tri. But it is a new contingency plan and probably still not completely certain.

As for an a-splitter who doesn't have a ship, I'm guessing that would be MSC ship assignment because all others should already be gone. MSC can take until the second week in December, according to DD. She left just before Thanksgiving last year. I suggest he keep in contact with his ATR to get info as soon as it arrives. Also, be prepared to travel with very little notice.

Good luck!

Oh yes, the ship assignments can take longer that anyone could want. Our ds got back to school 7 days after the 2nd tri started this Novembe b/c 2nd part of his 2nd sea year was delayed 19 days. Much to catch up on at school now. It's been done before. He'll make it.

Same thing happened to DS- home an extra 3 weeks this summer, then assigned to a ship sitting in Baltimore harbor, and finally back out to sea in Sept. He stayed out over a week into 2nd tri and still catching up but much less stressed now than he was 2 weeks ago.

C-Split is for real

This C-Split is apparently the real deal. A friend of our DS's from 2014 has been “moved to C-Split” after some paperwork snafu held up their A Split departure. Found this out indepentent of this forum, and the A-Splitter is now home for Thanksgiving.

Semper Gumby and Go KP!

Well I'll be darned. A government institution which is flexible enough to change for the good of their students? Excellent and WOW!! Keep it coming:shake:

Anyone have any new info about this new C split?
