My son was given advice to add to his school choices (he has two listed) on his AROTC scholarship application. He is of the mind that if those are really the only school's he's interested in attending then there is really no need to add schools just for the sake of bettering his chance of receiving aid to go to a school where he wouldn't be happy. Are we crazy with this type of thinking?

The application has space to add the extra schools. One school of thought is if you receive a scholarship to a school other then the No. 1 and 2 choice there is a possibility of transferring the scholarship to the desired school.

Transfers are harder to get these days but a couple things can make at least possible. Selecting schools that are in the same Brigade as the top choice schools and making sure that the cost for these schools are not less then the top choice schools.

Transferring to a school within the same brigade that is of equal or less cost gives you a better chance of getting the transfer although it is never a guarantee.

If the two top choice schools are the only schools your son would be happy attending then just be prepared to attend the program without a scholarship which a lot of cadets do.

Good luck.

I agree with Jcleppe. Adding additional schools within the same brigade will only increase the chance that you receive a scholarship to the school that is your top choice. The transfer becomes even easier if the schools are within the same battalion.
