What are my chances of recieving a 4 year AROTC scolarships to Arizona State Universi

Hi I am currently in the application process of ROTC and I was wondering what my odds are of recieving a four year scholarship to Arizona State Universty with the following requisites

2.56 wieghted GPA
SAT 1470 math-530 English-500 writing-440
4 year varsity wrestler
2 year varsity wrestling team capt
Numerous titles displaying success in the sport
Student government member
Part time job
6:07 mile time
65 push ups
24 pull ups
Community service hours

I understand my grades and test scores are holding me back from being as competitive as I would like to be for the program but with my other leadership criteria am I still a possible candidate? I feel as if I would make a good army officer and I'm hoping the board will agree. Please don't be afraid to be blunt if You believe I do not have a chance at receiving a scholarship.

I would suggest you go to www.collegeconfidential.com and see if you are a viable candidate for ASU.

AROTC is tied to the school and the cadet. If 2.56 wgpa is avg your chances will be different than if 2.56 is a reach.

I'm pretty sure I'm already gonna be accept into ASU. I've already taken all the required coarses for the school and some, and thier acceptence rate is 91 percent and my SAT scores (English and math) are the ones looked at and mine are slightly above average for that school.

Your best bet is going to be to blow the APFT out of the water. As a wrestler I know you're in good shape but you also know you can be way fitter if you work at it. My son was a wrestler but I saw him radically improve his fitness in preparing for the Navy Marine Option PFT. You didn't mention situps. Work 'em. Make sure those pushups are regulation. Run, run, run. Cross train. Do something you love to do besides wrestling that will help get you fitter. For my son it was rock wall climbing. Get the application done ASAP!!!!

All I can say is that your SATs exceed the minimum of 920 required by the program, with a (2 years ago) average SAT of 1186 CR + M for scholarship awardees.

Are you able to take the SATs again this Saturday, December 3? Somebody should correct me if I'm wrong, but if you do, and receive your scores in late Dec from the 3 Dec. test, you can update your file at Cadet Command prior to the March final Board.

In the case of AROTC the applicant will not take the complete APFT, they will only do the PFT. The scores for the PFT will not impact the chances of a scholarship unless they are extremely low, and then not that much. Very high scores honestly are looked at with a grain of salt by the board because the tests are usually given by a high school coach or PE instructor.

Can't tell you how many times I've heard of new cadets that had unbelievably high PFT scores take the official APFT and fail because of technique, it's a lot harder when you have to do the test within regulations.

NROTC MO application put a whole lot more stock into the PFT because you have to complete an official one.

Are you from Arizona, if you are then ASU would be an In State school which will help considering the current budget issues and Cadet Commands new push for more scholarships to public in state universities.

You will have one disadvantage because you will not be able to max out the points on your interview due to your GPA and SAT. The most you be able to get is a 180 out of 200. If you do not have enough leadership positions that will reduce your points as well. A ROO that posts here has stated that they did not see one scholarship awardee with an interview score below 180. Try and get some leadership soon.

You look great as far as athletics.

The best you can do is apply, call or visit the battalion at ASU and talk with them, you might be able to get a better feel of your chances with a conversation.

I can't thank you guys enough for your feed back. I've been dying to know where I line up against others. Unfortunately the registration for the dec 3rd sat testing is closed so I won't be able to retake them and get scores in before the final board. Anouther question I have is where can I send any letters of recommendations from my coaches, bosses, teachers, ect. And I have completed all paper work as of tonight. Faxed my last bit of stuff over today. The only things I have left are the interview & medical exam but I hear they don't administer that until after you have been offered the scholarship. So my question is when, how, and who will be contacting me to setup my interview or do I contact them? Anouther thing is ASU is out of state unfortunately so will I be doing the interview over the phone with the ASU military science instructor or will I be meeting with my local university military science instructor?

If you choose not to travel, you'd meet with a PMS at an ROTC detachment near you. People here on the message boards (including ROTC instructors) strongly recommend interviewing with your desired detachment if at all possible. That said, my son interviewed local this fall and was offered a 4-year scholarship to an out-of-state school. He had, however, called the detachments atop his list during the summer and again around the time of his interview to put himself on their radar.
