Status of Round 2

Has the review board completed Round 2 of the EA process?

Rounds 1-3 are finished; Round 4 will be reviewed by Admissions Committee over the next two days and notification letters are scheduled to be mailed on Tuesday, 12/6.

I'm pretty sure that my daughter's application was in round 2. We still haven't heard anything. Stalking the mailman hasn't seemed to help!

I've read here that some people were informed that their application was about to be reviewed by the board. Is everyone notified before hand, or are only some people sent a letter? And when in the process does the CGA contact Dodmerb? One more question, how many rounds are there? (I am guessing about 9 or 10 given that November is almost over and EA ends in mid January. )

Thanks in advance. I check this forum dozens of times a day and have learned a lot from it.

My son received a letter telling him if he would be reviewed EA and to let them know immediately if he did not want to be reviewed EA. I did not take this as meaning he was about to be reviewed. This letter was received a few weeks ago.

Is it safe to assume round 3 notifications were sent out yesterday?

The majority of Round 2-3 notification letters were mailed last week prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.

All applicants are notified via letter when their record is scheduled to be reviewed by the CCEB. All complete applicants who are competitive for an appointment are forwarded to DoDMERB for medical scheduling. There are normally 10 EA rounds and 10 RA rounds.

All of this information is fantastic but it certainly raises the anxiety level in this household. Everybody is trying to read the tea leaves. DoDMERB, check. Letter check, wait is this the right letter? Scheduled does this mean right now or the 7th round? Son of a gun I guess we will just have to impatiently wait and hope for good news.

Thanks for the answers. I guess I want to know the order that this all happens. I would guess the letter comes first, then (after being reviewed and found to be competitive) the dodmerb referral? Then either a conditional appointment (depending on passing the medical evaluation) or a non-selection.

I haven't heard anything for a long time. All of my materials are in. I attended CFAD and think my cadet would say something good for me if asked. But I haven't gotten any letter about being reviewed for EA...and my dodmerb status hasn't shown any activity with the CGA (I also applied to NA and am medically qualified there).

As you all know, this is so stressful. While I have solid plan B, this is not just about where we go to school, our whole career and the path of our lives will be very different based on the next few weeks. Somebody said this was like a roller coaster, that is so true, at times it is great and my hopes are up and at other times, like now, things don't look so good! Whatever the outcome, I'm proud to be even considered and I sill sincerely admire those who are chosen.

Exactly why deciding to go to an academy is a much bigger decision than where to go to school.

Luigi59, I think it might help some on this forum to know what happens when an applicant has been determined to not be competitive. We know what does not happen - their names are not forwarded to DoDMERB. We understand the tracks for those deemed competitive, but how soon after applying is the determination as to competitiveness typically made and when and how are those not deemed competitive notified of that determination? Thanks.

EA questions

I received my letter of regret from the CGA today, informing me that I will not be recieving an appontment to the Class of 2016. Disappointing, yes. That said, I do have some questions: I received two more academic awards, plus I was just honored with a second Varsity Team Captainship in my best and favorite sport: Indoor Track, which begins the competitive season this Friday with our first meet; and I am retesting on the ACT in December to attempt to raise an already decent ACT score. Obviously none of this was in my CGA EA file. Am I just done for this year as far as the CGA is concerned and so I should save all of these stats to turn in when I reapply next year; or do I continue to turn stats in to Admissions during this, my Sr year of HS? THX

You might want to send your Admissions Officer an e-mail to verify that your record is actually complete...mistakes happen, paperwork gets misfiled, etc. You should normally be receiving that confirmation letter (that your record is complete) within 2-3 weeks of when we consider the file ready to be reviewed by the CCEB.

The "competitive enough" standard is simply used to determine whether or not we schedule an applicant with DoDMERB when their record is complete. All complete records are going to be reviewed by the CCEB regardless of that initial "competitiveness" rating and the CCEB is also not made aware of that rating. If the CCEB recommends an applicant for either a direct (2016) or CGAS (prep school) appointment, and they weren't previously forwarded to DoDMERB, then we would immediately do so.

I would normally recommend submitting those updates now so they would already be in your record when/if you reapply to the Class of 2017; however, we're planning to have electronic records only (no paper files) next year and I doubt the Operations staff will be scanning all the Class of 2016 paper records to capture previously submitted material. So while you can definitely continue to submit updates now...there's a chance you'd end up having to resubmit next year to ensure it's in your Class of 2017 record.
