DD received a call from our MOC informing her that since she already has an LOA and her GPA, SAT's and recommendations are strong, no interview is necessary...she has her nomination. She will be ranked last, #10, on the slate so others can have a chance at admittance. So nice to have this wrapped up before December and we can enjoy these last months with her before she leaves us in June. Best of luck to all of you!

Hi BobBigBoy, Congrads on ur DD's LOA :thumb: I was just wondering if ur DD is a recruited athlete or if she's a regular candidate?

Would you mind giving us scores on what she sent in (GPA, SAT's, Sports, EC's, CFA, etc...) ? Thanks!

GPA is 3.98 unweighted, SAT's are below the average but above 600, ranked 13 of 361, class president, lots of sports with state distinction and CFA's were average except the mile. She probably would have been on the bubble of getting in without being recruited but the academy isn't for everyone, especially girls that are being heavily recruited by traditional colleges. which she was. The USAFA is a perfect fit for my DD, she will make an excellent officer.

Congrats to your DD (and you). Be sure to let us know when the official BFE arrives. :thumb:

Congrats Bob. And it's great to see that even as a recruited athlete, your daughter has the type of resume that puts them in the front of the pack. With or without being a recruited athlete. This is a testament to both your daughter and her parents. Too many people think recruited athletes are usually at the bottom of the qualification scale. I have seen a lot of applicants in the last 7 years. I've always believed that athletes with the higher end resumes are the norm. I'm glad your daughter's resume supports this position. Congratulations again to you, your daughter, and your family. You should be very proud of her and yourselves. Mike... :thumb:

Thank you so much! After reading all of your posts, I have gained a real respect for you, so your remarks carry a lot of weight.

My DD has been to the USAF three times which included unofficial and official athletic visits and the summer seminar and she loves it....so far. What is really great is that she had many college options because of athletics and this is what she really wants. She has always generally made the right social decisions and has worked extremely hard on academics and sports and now, it appears, it will pay off for her and our family. We are so excited at the opportunity for her and the extension of another generation in a warrior family. We know that this is the end of the beginning and the true challenge lies ahead but we know that she has her eyes wide open and thanks to great posts on this forum and the great You Tube videos, she will be as prepared as much as possible.

Congratulations, Bob! You should feel proud indeed. Our son (class of 2014) was also a recruited athlete in fencing, received an LOA and was offered his appointment at about this same time of year so our stories are very similar. I can also say that based on the academic achievements of some of the other cadets on the fencing team with whom I'm now familiar that I would tend to agree that many are toward the upper end of the academic achievement scale.

Like your daughter our son also worked extremely hard in school and in fencing (8 years of national level competition) to be able to go to USAFA, which was his goal since about freshman year in high school. Now he's living his dream and loving it. He was even named USAFA Athlete of the Week in September.

We feel blessed indeed that USAFA recognized all his hard work in his sport, academics and community service to offer him an appointment. Sometimes we still have to pinch ourselves when we got out there for Parents Weekend.

Best of luck to your daughter. I'm sure she'll be a tremendous credit both to the Academy and the Air Force.

Ah the best feeling ever! I can't believe it has been over a year since I found out about my LOA on a Friday, interviewed for nominations on Saturday, and found out about my nomination on Sunday. Those were the best 3 days ever. Make sure that she remembers the feeling that she has right now because there will be days that she looks around and wonders what was she thinking. But there will be plenty of other times where she looks around and realizes how amazing of a place this is and how "right" of a decision it was of hers to come. Congrats!

My daughter is a recruited athlete at USAFA - and I also agree as to qualifications. She has taken every available AP class offered (Calculus, Physics, etc), she is a a straight A student, solid SATs, incredible CFA scores (maxed on all but 1), good leadership, and to top all that, she has trained more than 35 hours per week for all four years of high school (yes - 6 days of practice per week). I know several other recruited athletes and they are all the same too. These are incredible kids.

Amen...she will make a great officer. There is some inborn trait that drives them...I know that my DD didn't get it from her parents! What sport Wing?

Wing77 and BobBigBoy

My daughter was a recruited athlete for the class of 2015. For what sports were your daughters recruited?

Wing77 - I sent you a private message.
