When my wife checked DS's application status this morning we were very happy an surprised to see that he has been nominated by the Honorable Representative Scalise of Louisiana.

One step closer!

For those of you that said this would be like a roller coaster...how right you were.

Just hold on to your seats. This is a very challenging year for appointments. From my personal experience March and April creep by like a snail in molasses. The thing that kept my family sane were all of the great people on this forum. Good luck to your son and congrats on the nomination!

Congrats and your roller coaster hasn't left the loading platform yet! So, pull those straps tight on more time.....

Amen, brother!

WHAT? why do you say that??? I just received my nomination as well and am almost done with my candidate file...I was under the impression that the ride is almost over.:shake: Am I just being naive?

There's still the wait to find out if you receive an appointment + if you get appointed then there's 4 more years of rollercoaster + 9 more after you graduate.

After the appointment there's some calm while you finish high school, graduate, and enjoy your two weeks of summer (it may be as little as one day of summer) and then your roller coaster inches up the first giant hill and the first OMG moment hits when you say goodbye to Mom and Dad and walk up those stairs at the AOG, across the bridge, and into a bus where the cadre welcome you to the Academy in their own special way. Meanwhile your parents begin spending hours going over thousands of photographs and seeing glimpses of their hot, sweaty, miserable looking DS or DD. Both you and your parents will be on their own roller coasters. The first break for parents is seeing a picture with a smile. And still, that is still only the beginning. Nevertheless, enjoy every minute and offer help and insight to those behind you.

Heck, I'll be pleased to see that sweaty, tired, and stressed out face- means he's where he really wants to be! MOC interview Saturday and he got a call from the Academy today to see how he was doing and if he had any questions. Nice of them to do it, probably lots of kids out there on pins and needles with the mass notifications being later this year. A little re-assurance that they're still in the hunt goes long way.

Best

Has he already completed his application? The other applicans that I know have received phone calls have their apps completed, and im wondering if they call applicants that have yet to complete their files.

He's been done with a nom (Presidential) since August. Since then he's heard from them a couple of times, but I guess they're calling complete applicants to re-assure them that the process is still churning despite the lack of rolling appointments this year. Our MOC interviews here in Bama have just begun so he hasn't met w any committees yet, this weekend is the first.

I just found out that I have been nominated by my Representative to USAFA. I am extremely honored and joyous to be nominated. This may sound as a stupid question however would I be correct in considering myself half way there to possibly going to the academy? I have completed my application 2 months ago and now I am just waiting to hear back.

Congrats on the nomination...that is a huge and positive step. However, it takes a lot of steps to get to I-Day. You are a big step closer, but still too far to say too much. In the meantime, make sure plans B and C are done as well. (ROTC applications are probably due soon...make sure you're part of that application process.) Good luck!!!!!!
