I have a daughter and she has completed her application to the USNA. She has received 3 nominations and attended the Summer Seminar. She just received a E-Mail about attending the Candidate Weekend Visit. She has signed up for that. My question is this. Does this mean she is going to be given a Appointment and this is her chance to back out or is this a we aren't sure about her and we need to see her again? A friend of hers also has 3 nominations and he has not received this E-mail.

Just a visit. It's a good thing, definitely, from an admissions (I reckon) and personal standpoint. But it doesn't mean anything official. Just a chance for her to see what life at the Academy is truly like. Definitely a great opportunity.

I didn't receive an LOA or an invite to CVW. I only had 1 out of 4 nominations and I just received my appt this morning. It's a good thing if they send you a CVW, but not the end of the world if they don't. Like JettAirliner said, just a visit :)

Think of it as similar to a visit to any college. It gives her a chance to find out what its really like and to help her decide if, perchance, she does get a nomination. Certainly some students attend and find out the academy life is not for them.

For me, I attended CVW and really liked USNA a lot more. Also from CVW, I would say NASS wasn't worth it compared to CVW.
Don't get me wrong thinking NASS is useless for other future applicants out there (it was fun and beneficial but not as beneficial compared to CVW), but if you can get a junior CVW before NASS, I would reccomend choosing the junior CVW over NASS.
