Hello everyone, I am currently a sophomore in high school and i am very interested in joining the United States Airforce Academy. I play football and am thinking about joining the ski team next year. I ended last semester with a 4.1 weighted GPA. I am going to be graduating with with a full IB DP diploma. I will be doing lots of volunteer/community service work as is required for the IB program. I plan on running for class president of something of the sort next year as well. What else should i do to greater my chances of admission to the usafa?

Take ACT/SAT's as much and as often as you can! For sure. Do as well as you can on those. Plenty of other things, but I recommend those the most highly!

I take it you are attending the academy right now? What do you feel is the most necessary thing to do to make myself a competitive candidate? I know it is all important, but based on my high school credentials listed above, what would you recommend I focus on? Participating in another sport? Extra curricular activities? Grades? Thanks

Football is enough sports. It's not dilution of effort they want, it's excellence and commitment. You also mentioned service and leadership.

take some AP Classes, Get a 34 on your ACT and you're all set.

Be ready for tough times. If you can handle the academics AND football, you're ready.

Just make sure that as you get into the upper grades you get some leadership in the sports and activities you are doing. Try to be a team captain on top of running for class president. And keep up the good work!

I wish I could say yes. I'm a sponsored falcon prep at NMMI. So I've been through the process before and I know where I was weak and what I would re-do in high school if I could. I would say SAt/ACT(like I already did ) and your CFA. Your grades seem good, keep them up as high as you can. Get as many leadership positions as you can. Maybe get a weekend or summer job if you're able? And get all your application paperwork, including nomination paperwork in AS SOON AS YOU CAN. Don't put it off! Oh, and don't forget to have fun! Work hard, don't slack, but that doesn't mean don't have fun, don't enjoy high school. Best of luck to ya! :thumb:
