Because my brother attended West Point, I am fairly aware of the military loans that was offered to him. I believe it was a very good deal - about 30 grand with a VERY low interest rate, maybe around 1% and that a portion of that sum would be subtracted from his monthly wages. It is called a "Cow Loan" as 2/c are called "Cows" in WP.

Is this also the case for Coast Guard Academy? And other than the fact that 4/c are called "swabs", are there other names for each grade?

The 2/c Car Loan is given to the juniors in the second semester around early Spring. For the class of 2013, the loan is going to be $36,000 at a .75% interest rate.

As for names for different class names, the freshmen are referred to as swabs only during swab summer. After that, they're fourth class. We're not as original as West Point; third class are third class, second class are second class, and first class are first class, known as firsties.

WHOOOOOAAAAA..... you're a swab until you see a swab!!! (of course, they are 4/c haha). Nothing like seeing your first swab as a 3/c!

Haha...LITS its most definitely true...one of the best feelings ever was seeing the pictures of RDay followed by seeing my first swab in person
Although you are a swab until you see a swab, no one really uses the term after swab summer...although my swab summer RC did like to go around saying "Good Evening Swabs" to us during the academic year.

Always "Good Evening"....because the sun never shines in Chase.

^^ Very true statement^^

And yes, a Swab until you see a Swab, as a 2013 who just happened to be here for the class of 2014's R-Day (a scheduling mistake for my summer assignments landed me here at the Academy for two weeks inbetween cutter phases) Nothing is quite as memorable as seeing a whole new batch of Swabs come in and thinking "Well, that's not me anymore!"

I'm preparing to see my 4th R-Day in a Row this year!

Can't wait to meet all of you candidates. Best remember to brush up on your indoc!

I'm preparing to see my 9th RDay in a row :shake: Yikes!! Time sure does fly when you're having fun.
