Just heard from DS that the spring FTX has been cancelled for all MSI's and MSII's at his school. Anyone else heard similar news? Budget cuts?

Nope, nothing yet.

Budget cuts would seem an odd reason since the cost can't be that much in the over all budget.

Budgets can't be that tight, my son's battalion just upgraded a MS1's 3 yr AD scholarship to a 3.5 year, they contracted him last Wed.

If you hear a reason for the cancellation let us all know, would be interesting to hear.

Our LN was canceled because of snow, but other than that our Spring FTX is still a GO. We have training meetings in a few weeks for a 60 day out brief.

As of today, my son's spring FTX is still scheduled and he is a MSII.

It probably depends on transportation costs. Some Battalions have to travel to conduct FTX. Cutting out a bus by not taking the basic course cadets may be a choice some Battalions have to make. This shouldn't shock or worry anyone. It's the times we are living in. That's why you should choose a school like Clarkson that has all their training resources within close proximity!!!

You forgot to add <shameless plug follows>
It is true though that you guys could forego the bus and cross country ski over to Fort Drum.

Great idea! Now move Clarkson to the midwest and DS could be first in line to sign-up.

just curious where... the local Boyscout field? :thumb: I think I know the answer but wanted you to reveal that.

Our school does 2 FTX's for the spring. One is done at the local RSP center where the 1's and 2's become squad leaders and team leaders for the RSP kids. Then we use the local training site to perform different team activities such as a PT test, paintball, team building, obstacle course, etc. This is good for both our program and the RSP unit as the RSP kids (and their friends that they are allowed to bring) are exposed to our program and the national guard has a chance to recruit from us.
The other one is just a standard MS3 FTX where they run lanes for 2 days and the contracted 1's and 2's get to play Op4 for the different lanes. We combine this with other schools in our brigade to diversify the environment.

Not sure what a Boyscout field is. We have a chunk of woods on the backside of campus that we can do STX and land nav on. We also have two pieces of land (Stone Valley and Seven Springs/High Flats) within a 20 minute drive that allow the same. We have a building that we can use to replicate a Barracks environment. And we have a local Reserve unit that supports our training with OPFOR and training aids. In the last 7 years we've hosted other schools 5 of 7 years, and traveled to Camp Ethan Allen in Vermont the other two years. We do have Fort Drum within an hours drive, but don't usually go there for FTX. (totally shameless plug, but gotta do it since we are a well kept secret).

(Even more shameless plug)
Last Spring's FTX was in Hawaii.
This Spring our MSIIIs and MSIVs are doing a staff ride in Europe.
