Is it possible to not receive a decision by the 20th

My son is awaiting news on the CGA decision. My question is will we receive a decision by tomorrow? If so, would it be by US Mail or email?

Thanks for the help,

I also share your anxiety. I applied for Early Action and have not received any notification yet. I'm from California, and it may take a while for the mail. However, I am informed that the decisions will be sent by the 20th but it does NOT mean that we will receive it by the 20th. I will say that by the 25th, it will, or it should, arrive in the mail GUARANTEED. I'm not sure about the e-mail, but maybe you can try emailing your son's Admissions Officer if they know his decision.

The CGA web page says: "If you complete your application by November 1, you will receive our admissions decision no later than January 20." http://www.uscga.edu/display.aspx?id=2952

My son was waiting out in the snow for the mailman a few minutes ago (they have the day off) - and there was nothing in the mail from the CGA.

Perhaps cchung34 is right about the envelopes being mailed by today, but the CGA web-page seems pretty clear "you will receive our admissions decision no later than January 20". So, maybe the decision comes via e-mail, or there is some hold up that we are not aware of. But there haven't been any announcements to indicate that.

Still waiting.

We were supposed to have had our RA notification, last year, by no later than April 15. It arrived, in the mail, on April 16. If you do not receive it today, it is not necessarily bad news. Good luck to you all.

Finally received the great news! I just received the mail from CGA with the BFE! It did indeed arrive by Jan 20th but I still wouldn't doubt that it may just be sent by Jan 20th and will arrrivelater. Good luck to you! :)

Thank you, I wish you good luck as you wait for your decision! And I believe that if you receive any awards or achievements throughout this stage, you are free to update your application which will be a major plus! Good luck to all!

If I recall correctly my DS recieved appointment notice via computer msg and the BFE followed in the mail. He had applied EA2 last year. Good luck to all:smile:!

Still waiting...

Although there was no news from USCGA today my son received a request for a follow up letter for his DoDMerb requesting a letter from his Orthodontist to confirm that his braces will be off prior to Attendance at the Academy. What on earth does that mean for the acceptance/denial process? So confusing...

For info, my son was fortunate to receive a BFE in the wed 1/18 mail. Hope the other EA applicants get word soon and best wishes.

Phil11 - Congratulations to your DS!!! He must be so excited. Such wonderful news

All that means is that for DoDMERB to qualify your DS, they need to make sure that he meets that requirement. The only standing on admissions that has is if they aren't than there is little to no way he can be appointed. If they are off, then he may or may not be appointed. Don't read too far into the DoDMERB request other than it is for medical qualification.

Does anybody know?

Does anybody know for sure that all of the EA decisions were sent out and should have been received by last Friday (1/20)? No word yet here in western Pennsylvania. Luigi or Objee?

If it's working like it did back when I was an applicant, then it'll take a few days to actually receive notice in the mail. For some reason Academy mail is notoriously slow.

Just to let you know, I received the mail while I was at school. Luckily, my mom was home and the mailman personally delivered it to our house because it wouldn't fit in the mailbox. If you don't want it to be left at your door mat, stay home or track your mailman down for your package. Best of luck! :thumb:

As far as I know, all EA notification letters were mailed by Friday, 1/20. I would recommend contacting your AO (or you can send me a pm) if you know that your record was reviewed in EA, but you haven't received your notification letter by Friday, 1/27. We should be free to share decisions via e-mail by then.

Early Action stats......

Objee, now that EA is done, will you be posting stats as you have in years past? While candidates can't just "go by the numbers" as many things go into the admissions decision, it's always been helpful to see the stats. It will be particularly interesting to see the stats for this year given the change in the EA policy. I'm assuming that EA apps were down and RA apps will be up. Thanks!!

Yes...the EA stats are complete, but the Superintendent would like some time to review and share with senior Coast Guard leadership (including the Commandant) before they are released to the public. Hopefully we'll be able to share them in the near future, but I think you're correct that most people can guess what happened when we changed the policy from essentially deferring everyone to RA who wasn't appointed to sending non-selection letters to EA applicants. There are a bunch of smart people on here who have been involved with the application/selection process much longer than I have been...they can probably forecast all the stats pretty accurately at this point!
