I'm a homeschooled junior, and I'm taking the ACT for the first time probably on June 9th. I'm hoping to go to one of the very competitve schools, Embry Riddle. I've been told that for ERAU I need to have my application completed before the first selection board meets. If I take the ACT in June, will they get my score in time for me to be a complete applicant for the first round of selection? Also, the medical and physical fitness test is something I do after I've been selected, right? Or do I also have to get that done before August?
Thanks.

I got into Embry Riddle with my 1st ACT composite of 26, I think it was for Aerospace Engineering. They are not a very selective school, but their AE program is one of the toughest in the country. What major are you considering there?

ERAU has multiple ROTC branches, I am going to take the leap and when you say competitive you mean scholarship and not acceptance.

If I were you I would take the SAT and ACT in May, and June.

The PFA is part of your scholarship package and must be submitted to the board. PFA does count for points when it comes to he WCS.

The DoDMERB is something the ROTC branch requests. They will tell you what Doc you must go to for the physical. Don't not assume that you will go to your family doc, it is highly unlikely you will got to your doc. The Doc you go to is selected by DoDMERB.

OBTW, I do agree ERAU is not seen as a selective college. Good college, don't get me wrong, but it is not a Notre Dame, Citadel, VMI, VT, UMich, PSU, TAMU, etc., especially when it comes to ROTC candidates looking at strong colleges with strong ROTC programs. Those colleges are ones I would say are "selective".

Aerospace engineering is what I'm planning. How difficult was it?

I've heard it was very difficult, but I never went there  I'm still a senior in high school. I probably won't end up going there though.

I'm pretty sure that based on that feedback that you're applying NROTC. Yes, if you take the June ACT, you should have results back by around July 1. Have the ACT send your scores directly to NROTC... there is a way to do that, but I've forgotten.

Anyway, assuming you have your Math Teacher, Teacher 2, and High School Counselor all get their Letters of Recommendation in by late May, and your Interview done by mid-June, with the only missing piece the ACT score, I think the pieces of your file out of your direct control will be complete and ready for the late Aug/early Sept. first Board.

P.S. Why don't you also take the April ACT test sitting? YOu could get lucky and even with less test prep, score higher on the April sitting than the June sitting. There is no penalty for multiple test dates... they just throw out the lowest and keep the highest for your file. Also, I don't know how it works for ACT, but up through last year at least your NROTC file will show your highest math score, and highest Critical Reasoning score, even if taken of different test dates.

aviatordream: I just PM'd you. DS is also homeschooled and just was awarded an AROTC scholarship to Embry-Riddle.
