A couple of the '11 grads came and talked about the 110' ensign experience. It sounds like a great tour, extremely hands on. They get to go to BO school and do a lot of other hands on things like drive the small boats. Even though I'm hoping to go to flight school first, I wouldn't mind spending a couple of years on one.

What is BO school?

Boarding Officer School. It's a school that most graduates go to immediately after reporting to their first unit (if they go DWO). It's designed to teach people how to board vessels, and act appropriately when conducting boardings and acting in an official capacity.

Deck Watch Officer..... think bus driver, but telling someone when to turn the wheel instead of turning it themselves.

They work on the bridge of the ship.

I'm sure BR2011 will have more to add here, but the Ensigns who came and spoke with us said that they were doing a lot of hands-on things. Instead of just telling someone to turn the ship, they can do it themselves.

LITS, did every DWO on your 210' get to go to BO school? The 110' folks made it sound like that not everyone gets the opportunity on the bigger ships.
