I have a couple questions about grades and appointment revocation.

How bad do grades have to be for your appointment to be revoked?
I do not have any failing classes and I am about .3 (3.7 and I received a 3.4this semester) below my cumulative GPA for the past 4 years (I do have a C in Advanced English).

I am not planning on slacking but I have become paranoid with getting bad grades since receiving a LOA.

Any insight would be helpful. Thank you.

Barring a more disastrous semestern that, you'll be fine. Run hard thru the finish line! NOW is NOT the time to make a pit stop or to hit the wall. Congrats!!!:thumb:

I feel ya. I already have my appointment and I worked my butt off in AP Calculus, only to get a 78% my first semester. I gave my very best though and had As in all other classes, except a B+ in AP Gov't.

I'm paranoid my appointment will be taken away LOL.

Thank you for the information. Senior year is a major grind...however, I am dedicated on finishing strong.

Futuremid- yes, the paranoid feeling is just awful! LOL

 If your dream soon comes to fruition, you'll likely be redefining "grind." Here's hoping so.

my last semester of high school (2011) i finished with a 79 in ap calc bc for the the year. it was my only C for a final grade in high school and my appointment didnt get revoked. i was worried like you but i wouldnt sweat a minor dip in grades

An LOA is unlikely to be pulled unless you "tank" your final semester. That generally means Ds and Fs without any reason for the drop, such as a family member ill or dying.

That doesn't mean folks should strive for Cs. There are many reasons to finish strong. It might help you validate USNA courses or do better in your plebe courses. Also, doing your very best is the way you'll want to conduct yourself at USNA and in life, so best to get started now.

But in answer to the question, a drop to a C in one course isn't going to get your LOA pulled.

Thanks for the advice. I've started tutoring in AP Calc ever since football ended. I'm doing my very best to understand it, but it seems like I might just want to retake it when I get to USNA, so I can really, really have a good grasp on all the basic calc concepts before I move on to Calc 2 & 3. Would this be wise to do?

If you do well enough on the tests to validate, take the validation. It's going to be difficult either way you do it so you might as well take the validation. Also, validation frees up your schedule so you can take more classes you are interested in, take fewer credits some semesters, minor in a language, or VGEP.

+1. Anything you can do to open up your sked is good. Remember that a "light" semester at the Academies would be a heavy course load anywhere else.

Dudes, don't sweat your grades too hard as long as you're doing your best. I stressed way too much my senior year, and as long as you don't seriously destroy your GPA, I'm talking D's or like straight C's or something, you'll be fine.

Otherwise, you'll be like me, who worried all senior year about getting my appointment revoked, and then felt burned out over nothing when it was all done. You're going to take 5 years off your life with stress at the Academy so why start stressing now? Enjoy it.
